Windows Updates After System Restore

Discussion in 'Windows Vista' started by C and A Bredt, Jun 12, 2009.

  1. I did a Windows Update for 12 Important and Recommended Updates on 6/1/2009.
Ten days later I had to do a System Restore to a date before those updates.

What is the status of those 12 updates? Are they still there? Do I have to
install them again? If so, how do I do that?

    Thanks, CB

Hi C and A Bredt, the updates are gone once you restore the system
before the updates. Now, if the updates are important, it will prompt
you to update again or click on window update to see if you still need
    it. Hope this helps.

    Gone

    No

    Yes

    Update!

I'm new to Vista, but think I'm correct.

If you have a slow connection and don't want to go thru the download again,
    save the folder

    C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download

to an external drive before doing the Restore.

Restore it after doing the System Restore and you won't have to re-download
    those updates.
It's too late for you this time, but it might help in the future.

Not quite. Not all the Updated reside in there. Only the ones that can be
uninstalled (spunist) Best to reload all that is needed fresh when reformatting or
    restoring
