Hey guys, I have Vista 64bit edition and I have recently run into a
problem on my ASUS laptop that I recently bought. I downloaded an update
from Windows update and when it restarted my computer, Windows Explorer
would not respond, so I would restart it but nothing would change, it
would continually not respond no matter how many times I would restart
it. I also cannot see my desktop, it is a black screen, and I can't type
in the search bar in the Start Menu or begin any programs because when I
do, it says Windows is not responding and it asks to be restarted.
Please help, I haven't a clue what to do.

  2. Belmont, I have the same problem as yours and even worse. I did'nt
create the cd recovery to re-install the system in case of problem. I
bought the new toshiba and in it there is Intel centrino. But I don't
know which Vista it contains. It is written VISTA TM.

Is anyone can Help me to find out how to get the cd or dvd recovery
system. is it possible to download it from the Internet?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi Charles,

You would need to contact the system manufacturer for a set of Recovery
Disks. None that I know of make them available as a download.

    Hi,

From the black screen, if you hit ctrl+shift+escape can you get Task Manager
to come up? If so, from the applications tab click on 'new task', type in
explorer.exe and hit <enter> to restart the shell. If this works, then we
can start looking for what's interfering with the shell starting or you can
    uninstall the update you downloaded.

Otherwise, hit F8 at startup to get the boot menu and either load safe mode
or the command line (non-gui) mode and load System Restore (command line
    rstrui.exe) to recover the system.

If you truly want to do a "PC Restore" as oposed to a "System Restore" You
should be able to hit F11 at boot up (POST) to get to the restore partition.
If that doesn't work and yo have a Dell you can hit F12 to bring up a boot
menu that will have the PC Recovery as an option. If all else fails you can
boot from a CD that can do partition changes then set the recovery partition
active then restart the computer without the CD.
