Windows defender And extra programmes on the system tray

Hello everybody, can anybody out there help me with this problem?

There must have been a Windows update or something because now I have a big
white balloon that comes up in my system tray, every time I load up the
computer. This has only been coming up in the last few weeks or so, which
makes me think it is a Windows update.

The balloon shows a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark inside.

It states,

"Windows has blocked some startup programmes. Windows blocks programs that
require permission to run when Windows starts. Click to view blocked
programs."

I did this and it showed me the programmes I always have a on the start menu
anyway, with a sign saying 'permitted' for each one, whereas I know this
already. Then there are other, new programs, I have never seen before,
under the banner 'Windows Defender' with signs saying 'Not Yet Classified.'

Eventually, in the same boot up session, I can eventually get rid of the
balloon. After that it shows in the system tray, with all my other items
already there, as a square turquoise icon with a red circle and a red line
across it diagonally, on a white background and this sits on the bottom left
of the turquoise icon.

I really do not want these extra programmes on my system tray. I was quite
happy with the amount of startup programmes I have there in the first place.

Do I really need these programmes on my system, start up tray?

Can anybody please tell me how I stop this item and the balloon coming up,
each time I reboot?

I appreciate any help given.

You *want* Defender to warn you like this, which is good. What you need
to do is look into each of those 'Not Yet Classified' programs and
figure out what they are and what the do, so you can either allow them,
find the setting to stop them from trying to load, or give them permission.

Please list those questionable programs here so someone can tell you
what they are and give you detailed suggestion for how to deal with each
of them.

 

Okay, here are the programmes, 'Permitted' and 'Not yet classified' one's.

Dell Dock.- Permitted. (I do not even know what this program is and I cannot
see any icon on the system tray that matches the one shown in the Windows
Defender saying that it is 'permitted'

Sorry, I made a mess of that last post and sent it by accident. There are
lots more programmes than the one I mention.

I will post back with a full list so perhaps you can then help me.

Okay, I will show a list of the programme's in the Windows Defender that are
'Permitted' and 'Not yet classified.'

Dell Dock- Permitted- (Star Dock Corporation) - (I don't even know what this
program is. The icon does not show in the system tray on startup even
though it says that it is permitted.

Quick Set- Permitted- (Dell Inc.) - (again, this does not show in the system
tray)

Microsoft Media Centre Tray Applet- Permitted- (Microsoft Corporation) -
(does not show in the system tray)

Microsoft Speech Recognition- Permitted- (Microsoft Corp.) - (shows up in
the system tray- this I want.

Microsoft Userinit Logon Application- Permitted- (Microsoft Corp.) - (does
not show in the system tray)

Microsoft Windows Explorer- Permitted- (Microsoft Corp.) - (does not show in
the system tray)

Microsoft Windows Sidebar- Permitted- (Microsoft Corp.)- (this I want and
have)

Windows Defender- Permitted- (Microsoft Corp.)- (I know I need this,
although it does not show in the system tray on startup. This is all
running fine and I know I do not need this on the system tray)

Windows Live Messenger. Permitted (I have always had this)

Skype - Permitted (I have always had this)

Alps Pointing Device Driver- Permitted- (Alps Electric Co Ltd.)- (this has
always appeared on the system tray on startup, although I am not quite sure
what it is. I think if it is something to do with Dell Data Safe in some
way. Perhaps you could enlighten me?)

Data Safe Online- Permitted- (Publisher Not Available)- (this has always
appeared on the system tray. I actually purchased Dell Data Safe when I
purchased the computer, so it was already on there. It does seem strange
though, that it says 'Publisher Not Available').

didtamon.exe- Permitted- (Publisher Not Available)- (this does not show in
the system tray and I haven't a clue what this is, or does)

didtmon.exe- Permitted- (Publisher Not Available)- (this does not show in
the system tray and I haven't a clue what this is, or does)

ATI Catalyst® Control Centre- Not yet classified- (Advanced Micro Devices
Inc.)- (this does not show in the system tray and I haven't a clue what this
is, or does)

Dell Webcam Central- Not yet classified- (Creative Technology Ltd)- (this
does show on my system tray although I have not really used it. Why does it
say it is 'Not yet classified?')

iolo System Components- Not yet classified- (iolo technologies, LLC)- (does
not show and I do not know what this is)

Cyberlink PowerCinema- Permitted- (Cyberlink Corp.)- (does not show although
it states it is Permitted. I have never ever seen this before!)

SupportSoft sprtcmd- Permitted- (SupportSoft Inc.)- (same as above)

AVG Internet Security- Permitted- (AVG Technologies CZ, s.r.o.)- I have this
all the time.

King Kong Capture- Permitted- (King Kong Software)- I have this all the
time.

Adobe Acrobat- Permitted- (Adobe Systems Inc.)- (I have this already
elsewhere on my computer. I do not want it on my system tray)

Malwarebytes Anti Malware- Not yet classified- (Malwarebytes Corporation)-
(I have had this for ages on my computer, so why is it saying 'Not yet
classified'? I do not want it on the system tray)

Are all the extra programmes I have never seen before in the system anyway
and they are there by way of a Windows Update?

Is it just a question of going through each, one by one and choosing which
one's I want on the system tray?

Once this is done, will it stop the balloon coming up that I mentioned
earlier when I reboot each time?

Or is it the case that I do not need some of these programmes and I simply
delete them?

Please help me with this scenario

This only shows up in the tray when it needs to alert you, or when it
updates.<!--coloro:blue--><span style="color:blue <!--/coloro-->

It's part of the Dell package, you need it, but you do not need it in
the tray. This icon can be safely hidden if you choose.<!--coloro:blue--><span style="color:blue <!--/coloro-->

didtmon.exe is part of the Dell/Lexmark package. didtamon.exe is
probably part of the same.

Many little programs are part of a bigger program package and do not
show in the tray because they run in the background, like your printer
always being available but only showing up while you are printing.<!--coloro:blue--><span style="color:blue <!--/coloro-->

First we have to deal with the cause of the balloon, then you can pick

We still need a list of the items specifically blocked by Defender
before we can help you fix the balloon issue.

However, right-click the taskbar, choose Properties, Notification Area
tab, make sure you have a checkbox on Hide Inactive Icons. Click the
Customize button and select whether specific tray icons are always
hidden, always shown, or hidden when inactive. When done, click 'OK',
then 'Apply'.

This is where you tell the computer to Show the Sidebar icon and to Hide
your Malwarebytes icon.

Remember, many sub-programs and components run in the background and
will not have an icon in the tray.

OK I'm back.

I have a good idea about all the programmes that are mentioned now.

I hid most of the ones I did not use that often within the system tray.
That tidied it up a bit but the balloon still comes up when Windows first
starts.

Let me first start by saying; after going through each one in Windows
Defender, there are only some that can be removed permanently. I shall show
you the ones that can and cannot be removed, inline with the last post
below.

I can remove or disable this if I want to. It is basically a very similar
way of showing the desktop icons on your desktop. Except these are in a
dock at the top of the desktop. I do not tend to use this, but it is not
doing any harm so I left it.

Windows Defender will not let me remove or disable this ('Remove or Disable'
is greyed out). I'm guessing that this is part of Dell or part of a bigger

All of the above, are greyed out, even the ones I know, but do not want on
the system tray! So they are hidden instead.

Defender is not actually blocking anything, only allows me to permit, remove
or disable as I have shown above. Sometimes none of those, as shown by
being greyed out.
