    Well...
They are both software, both OSes - but I don't see how else they are
'the same', or even similar... ;-)

I said that months ago but a little differently. I said that Windows 7
is a lame *imitation* of Ubuntu.

How 'bout including the link? Anyway, NO they are NOT the "same." Not
EVEN close. Yeah, the tool bar in 7 RESEMBLES the KDE bar in various
Linux distros, (NOT just Ubuntu, geeze get a clue), I'll give it that,
but that's it period. The propaganda is astounding! LOL What a crock.
Win7 and Ubuntu are as close as Summer and Winter.

To Alias, NO, Win7 is nowhere close to an "imitation" of Ubuntu. The
Aero Glass bit is SIMILAR to what can be done in Compiz, but remember,
Windows Blinds has been doing the SAME thing for a LONG time. (Glass
look) I'm NOT advocating one thing or another here, just refuting false
claims. I happen to like my Ubuntu install, as well as my DOS, Win3.1,
Win98, Win XP Home and Pro, Win 2000, Win Vista Ultimate, Win 7 RC,
Elive, PClinuxos, TinyMe, Antix, DSL, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Puppy Linux,
Ubuntu Ultimate, Ubuntu Netbook Remix, etc, etc, installs. (YES I have
them ALL and more installed on various computers) I KNOW the
    differences! Gimme a break. S-P-E-A-K T-H-E T-R-U-T-H ..For a change..

Oh, and I really need to add...

There are things in Linux I wish Windows would implement, (USEFUL Compiz
type features), and things in Windows I wish Linux would implement.
That's why I run, (Have to), BOTH OS's, to get the best of BOTH worlds,
as I know you do Alias. (XP for gaming, Linux for other stuff.)

Aero is a cheap imitation of Compiz, as is Windows Blinds. The fact that
you have spent your life installing operating systems doesn't change
    that fact.

No, they are not the same, Alias. Windows 7 is based on the latest variant
of the NT kernel (NT 6.1) and Linux is a UNIX clone - the latest RedHat
Server kernel being based on the Linux 2.6.18 kernel.

NT has its roots in DEC's work:

    [Windows NT - Wikipedia]
"Microsoft hired a group of developers from Digital Equipment Corporation
led by Dave Cutler to build Windows NT, and many elements of the design
reflect earlier DEC experience with Cutler's VMS and RSX-11."

Linux has roots in MINIX which has its roots in UNIX:

    [Linux - Wikipedia]
"In 1991 while attending the University of Helsinki, Torvalds began to work
on a non-commercial replacement for MINIX, which would eventually become the
    Linux kernel."

What it does make Linux is a USELESS INFERIOR piece of crap that NOBODY
wants. Look at that CRAPPY Ubuntu - Less than one percent on the desktops
out there and the damn product has been free for years. People avoid
    Ubuntu.

In amendment I should mention that even ZDNet itself concedes, they
definitely are not the same, especially where the GUI is concerned and a lot
of support for accompanying software, i.e. Office etc.
But for a 15-year old there seems to be 'no difference' between the two
OSs', which is understandable, considering the support for Linux being
displayed in this group, even though totally unwarranted and out of place.
Hopefully this settles it once and for all.

<Sigh>, I would do better arguing with a brick wall, than some here. MY
POINT IS, I use BOTH and Ubuntu and Win 7 are NOT alike other than you
can have a glass theme in either one. MS didn't do anything different
than anyone else as far as using/developing a glass theme. Who cares if
someone developed it first? So what? Why can't EVERYONE else do it? That
sort of thing happens in all sorts of technologies. Big deal. How do you
explain MANY painstakingly written XP and Vista themes for Gnome and
KDE? Is that NOT copying MS? Cheap imitations? Why are they somehow
exempt from your scrutiny? Here's a good one, how 'bout Vixta? (Forgot
about that one, I have it installed too) Know that one? It's a Distro
totally dedicated to being like Vista. (Hence the name) Talk about a
    cheap imitation.

See, I personally don't give a Rat's A** about all that. The glass bit
was a GREAT innovation, and if EVERYONE wants to create their own
version, so what? So-be-it, let the PEOPLE choose which one they like
and will use. I wouldn't, couldn't, care less if Linux, (Gnome, and
KDE), implemented real Windows type features, nor would I care if MS
implemented real Linux type features,(USEFUL Compiz features
particularly), ranter I would WELCOME and embrace it! Such narrow minded
thinking, so narrow minded here and in Linux world.

    Sheesh!

WOW! Alias, how Frank of you. ..And I mean the your nemesis here. Nice
rebuttal, NOT. YOU are the one that got me to try Ubuntu in the first
place a few years ago by reading your posts. I was hating Susie Linux so
went for Ubuntu. Which OS do you think I boot to, and use the most?
Except for when I'm testing Win7, (Which I have been doing a lot of
lately, and am liking it), most my posts are from Ubuntu Linux. However,
I refuse to be narrow minded, and biased. (Anymore) Not that you would
give a Rat's A**, but you have lost credibility, and my respect. I have
watched you DE-evolve with your "noble" mission and fighting, (Lowering
yourself), with the dopes in here and basically becoming as disgusting
as THEY ARE. I thank you for turning me on to Ubuntu, but I leave it
there. Good luck with your "noble mission." Maybe someday, you will
re-evolve into the more decent person I saw posting before now. Don't
bother posting to this, as I'm done with you and this thread.

    G'day
