I have gone back to Vista after using Win 7. I used Windows Easy
Transfer (WET)and loaded up an external drive. I found that Vista SP2
seems to have a slightly different WET gui and have not been able to
xfer any data at all. I can get to the point of selecting path and
password but then cannot get a path that the Vista version of WET will
recongnize even though it shows up and can be selected the WET that is
    on the external drive.
Went back to Vista to get ready for the release of the retail version
of 7 and did not want to mess with the RC and eventual clean install
    next year.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated....

    Hi,

You can put the Vista easy transfer program on an XP machine via the
    Vista dvd.

You can probably put the 7 Easy transfer program on a Vista
    installation using the 7 dvd.

See step 2 in this link:

'How To: Transfer Your Data from XP to Vista - by Digital Trends'

I have never tried it, hope it helps.

This is why you dualboot to test out a new OS. I doubt you will be able
to use Windows Easy Transfer to go from Win7 to Vista. You'll just have
    to do it manually.

Is it possible Microsoft overlooked or decide to not to support a means to
    go back?

  5. Warnings on the Windows 7 beta and RC pages told you that there was no way
to go back to Vista from Windows 7. You were told that you would have to
perform a clean install of Vista if you decided to go back. It was also
mentioned that you not install Windows 7 on a computer that was used as your
main computer. If you did not heed those warnings, and take the normal
precautions that all knowledgeable beta testers use - you are out of luck.

You may have lost all of your personal files if you didn't back up your
    precious documents, photos and music.

I don't if Microsoft "overlooked" it or deliberately chose to ignore
the possibility of some wanting to downgrade their OS (Or of large
organizations having a mix of operating systems and sometimes needing to
move people around, sometimes to an older system). But as it's also not
possible to use Windows Easy Transfer to move one's user profile from
Vista to WinXP, I'm not at all surprised to learn that one also cannot
    go from Win7 to Vista.

Sadly, that only works to help transfer the data off the WinXP machine
and onto a Vista machine. It doesn't work to transfer from Vista to
WuinXP. It's a one way mechanism, from older to newer OS.
