I couldn't agree more. We'll all figure out how to work around their control. :) I forgot to mention to that the good thing about a fresh install is you can go advanced and turn off all their "ET phone home" crap that is turned on by default. You can do it on a upgrade, but it's much more tedious to turn it all off.

Yeah Ray you are right. So far I have done 30 upgrades to 10. Each one very meticulously weeding out MS and their snoop routine the best I can. For what it's worth and I always do this with a new OS release, I have done 10 ( not counting the 30 clients) clean installs myself on two of my own machines because I want to know every inch of the operating system. So after it's installed I rifle through all settings even the most mundane. I also scour C/Win/32. I am all up in this thing every day because it really matters how well I know it.

I guess you noticed that once you learn it you start to realize it's actually easier than 7 was to use, and even the settings, even though yes there are two places for "settings" is easy. It really does mimmick a windows cell phone IU especially the settings. I spend a lot of time playing around with 10 and I feel I know it fairly well now.

I hear you loud and clear. It's pretty easy to use once a real start menu is installed. Things are the same really, just a different way to achieve the same outcome. I agree that once you get used to it, it is actually easier to use. Can't turn off updates pisses me off and probably more so when a update cause me grief. I have always turned off automatic updates so I can first wait to see if they don't cause issues and second, see what it wants to install.

Well, me I am not using any start menu installed like classic shell or Start10 for now. I will later. What I have now is completely vanilla. Standard. About those updates yes I agree a pain. I have my own workaround I will possibly post later in the forums but I need more time to see if it holds. So far 5 days and no updates.

The first thing I did was turn off Driver updates. I prefer to get them from the maker of the software.
You can install the correct Driver and next thing M$ deletes your driver and installs what they think is best for you.
    Not likely.

Good idea Doug as we all know how reliable Windows drivers are. I'll figure out how to turn off automatic updates if it kills me. It's my computer and not theirs.

Excellent, thanks. I forgot to say that I did go into Services and disabled Windows Updates and haven't seen the update thing come up or over from the right side YET. I hope it works, but still trying to figure out how to view what is going to be installed before it is, but having no luck.

That is how I did it, and also through GPedit. This install of 10 though there is nothing just settings tweaked :) 5 days no updates other than the initial stuff that happens right away.

Ray, I think soon there will be plenty of tools to help us with W10. It's going to be a lot like Stardock did with the UI but instead of the IU it will be the privacy settings and update. I am a long time gamer so you know I don't want to be in the middle of Skyrim and have my PC reboot or have automatically installed a driver. So I think over time there will be a lot of programs to help tame anything for W10 to get it back to where 7 was before.

Little story Richard knows about. I install W10 as soon as it comes out. I test it but I installed my own NVidia driver. Well, in the background W10 downloaded a new NV driver for this system and this card. I was in the middle of a freakin game I was pissed. Let me use Richards new emote here this was how my face looked here :grr:

Anyway after that I tweaked the update setting and learned how to do it in the registry and GPedit, and turn off auto-reboot etc. all the normal OS settings. :)

10 pissed of the wrong person. lol I'd be pissed too if I was doing good in COD and it did that. There's plenty of evil genius's out there that will come up with something to put the kibosh on windows 10.

That one was not nice because I had to change everything GPU related from default settings to anisotropic and antialiasing settings. It's all good though I love a challenge and with regards to tech I a willing to learn as always in the grand scope of anything new.
