When logging on, desktop disappears but taskbar works

    Hi there,

I have a similar problem to others here but there are some differences.
When i log on to (Vista Premium on an Asus) my desktop items are not
there. The start menu and taskbar work fine, as does the right click.

When i right click and go to "view" the option that says "Show desktop
items" is checked. In order to get my desktop back i have to un-check
    it, then check it again.

I have run anti-spyware but this seems to have done nothing (have not
run it in safe mode yet) although it did quarantine some items.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you
    Pablo

Does your computer have a dual output video card and is a second display
showing in the display options (whether you have a 2nd monitor connected or
not)? Sometimes desktop items can get moved to the second display, though
usually the taskbar goes with them. Could be a quirk of your display drivers
or indicate a faulty driver installation.

Thanks. I found the problem. I must have accidentally hit the FN key
instead of Control or something like that cos it was on 'battery saving'
mode rather than 'high performance' - hence desktop icons disappearing
    but taskbar remaining.
