Im so frustrated!!! I want to DELETE or REMOVE my operating system and reinstall it. I have windows vista. Of course, you cannot format vista to wipe it clean and start over because vista sucks. What I understand is that you have to insert the installation disk and it will reinstall vista over the old version. I have tried this and all it does is begin installing it and then I get that stupid blue screen saying it's going to dump blah blah blah and then I have to restart.

The reason I want to format and reinstall is because I have a virus or spyware or whatever... that I can't get off my computer

    someone help:mad:

I'm afraid the last time you could overwrite an operating system was windows98 although I am not so sure about the millenium OS.

A lot depends on what kind of Vista disk that you have. Was it a retail version, an OEM? Additionally when you return data to the hard drive (assuming it is saved) you will have to be very careful not to reinfect the drive all over again.

We can help you reformat and reinstall windows but I would not give up on the malware removal thread quite so soon. That, of course, is up to you. You just missed starbuck by a few minutes with your last post so why not wait and see what he has to say?

Put you're disk in and go to options and you will see the option to format then you can do a clean install it works even if you just have an upgrade disk. you just have to wait to put the key in when you sign in to windows.

BeeCeeBee: I'll wait a bit for more help on the malware thread. I'm so angry because I am an above average intelligent woman with a college education and can't figure out how to fix my inanimate computer. I've had a computer since the early 90s so you'd think I'd have figured it out by now...

My vista disk says: Microsoft Windows Visa Home Basic 32-bit Operating system disk. It also says "Warning: this process erases all data and files from the hard drive."
    yeah right....

Patrick: When I put the disk in, the only option I have is to run it and install. there is no option to format

Sorry I was not very clear on that. you have to put the disk in, then restart you're computer and boot from the disk. Then you click on the install button, not the upgrade button go through a few of the "I agree" pages and when it asks where you want to install vista there is a button down at the bottom that says "Options" Click on that and you will see the format button Thats the way I do a fresh install with out having to go to the operating system.

Sorry but that makes me laugh, (with, not at, you :) ) Since when does intelligence have anything to do with it. Next you are going to tell me that you expect things to make sense. Ain't gonna happen. :D

Based on your profile you are in Nebraska and Starbuck is in Wales. I know that he had looked in about a half hour before your last post in the malware removal thread. I am sure he will be here today again.

Formatting your computer is a pain that often leads to more pain. We will help you with it so don't worry but I would still urge you to wait.

Thanks BeeCeeBee. And laugh away! I'd laugh too if I wasn't busy repenting for all of the nasty words I've been screaming at my computer! Okay, maybe I am laughing a little ;)

Waiting for England to wake up!

Best be careful. Having lived in Ireland for a long time I don't think anyone from Wales would like to be considered as being from England. :D I have sent an email to starbuck but that does not mean that he will see it any faster.
