Vista / Windows 7 provides no real benefits

    John Rivers Guest

I calculated that to migrate to Vista or Windows 7 will cost close to
    £2000

not including my time - It will take around 100 hours

This is because many of my existing software / tools / utilities does
    not work on Vista

and the vendors expect me to buy a new license because it is a "new
    product"
even though it does exactly what it did before - just on a different
    OS

Even the products that do work have problems and glitches that have to
    be worked around

All this takes time MY VALUABLE time

In other words I am suffering because Microsoft want money

In the past some versions of windows were worth migrating to
Windows 2000 and Windows XP were great

But most of the improvements to Vista / Windows 7 are mostly
transparent to normal users - even monster power users like me

I believe Microsoft have a serious attitude problem

just wait until they take full advantage of TPM to screw even more
    money out of us

If I am wrong please point out a real tangible benefit that Vista or
Windows 7 brings to a large percentage of users

    or to me

I also I can no longer buy a laptop because they only come with Vista
GPU drivers (some come with buggy unsupported XP GPU drivers - great)

    My benefit is this!

Since using Windows 7 I have not had one single hang or crash.

    What more can I say?

Damn you are slow. Took me about 2 hours including install and
configuration of system. This includes many third party apps.
Sounds like Windows is way over your head.<!--coloro:blue--><span style="color:blue <!--/coloro-->

    Stick with XP then.

They don't expect you to do anything. If it doesn't work for you then stick
with what you have. No big deal.

Way over your head. Stay where you are.

Maybe you should take some of that money you have and go back to school.

You are no power user. If it takes you 100 hours to configure a new system,
your IQ must be around 50.

After reading this far, I believe any Windows product is way over your head.
Talk with Alias and he will set you up with that INFERIOR Ubuntu.

That seems more like your style.

Linux crashes too if you try to do something other than just turn it on

I've been running Vista at home for almost 2 years. I've had a huge
reduction in problems since I went from XP to Vista (completely
different machines). I still have XP on my office computer and it's
not had too many problems but it has more then I've had on the home
machine and it does sometimes get so screwed up that I have to give up
    and reboot.

True, +1. People like John probably still deplore that the Cro Magnon
came to Europe 35.000 years ago. They would have preferred the "cozy"

I am Happy with my VISTA ULT 64bit and Vista Pro 32bit.
I/we will NOT be moving to WIN7 reasons are that I consider that the
changes to WIN7 and the REMOVAL of the "CLASSIC" interface a bad move.
Like John I have calculated that to move 115 users to WIN7 would cost
approx NZ$3000.00 per user = cost of the O/S + updating and upgrades +
Training of users + Downtime and loss of productivity = NO GO.
