Vista SP2 not starting (restarting before boot can complete)

I've just instaled SP2 for Vista on a clean install and it constantly
keep rebooting, it won't get to the login screen.

It's not even booting into Safe Mode.

So far the boot goes as far as "Configuring Updates: State 3 of 3
    Complete 0%"

And then it restarts. The most annoying thing is that I haven't
installed any updates, for this to happen. All other updates that need
to be done are finished and the computer has rebooted a number of times
    before hand.

I've got all my drivers and such updated but the problem still
persists. The only way I can get around it is by reinstalling the OS all
over again. I've tried System restore but even with that the problem
    continues.

Anyone got any idea on what's happening?

It is probably a hardware issue. Overheating or the Power Supply.

    Hi,

Was SP1 part of the clean install? To install SP2 successfully, SP1 must
already be in place. In addition, you should also have installed any
necessary drivers for the system hardware.

SP2 can only be installed if SP1 has been previously installed.

In case you didn't understand my clean install already has SP1
integrated. So I don't have to go fooling about with installing SP1 and
    then SP2.

Anyway if I didn't have have SP1 installed the installer for SP2 would
not have worked. It would have stated that the necessary components for
installation were not present (in other words SP1 is required, no SP1 ==
    no installation).

Also just to add, my clean disk is not vLited (if people are
wondering), it is a clean ISO which I have been able to download
    legitimately.

    Sloshed:

I had a similar issue after SP2. Every restart would just crash to
power off state. I tried startup repair; safe mode; I even got into
system restore once but it too had issues. Nothing worked. They all
crashed before even the point you got to.

Since my system didn't come with a Vista OS disk (just a format the
drive / reload disk), and since I had a few data items on the hard
drive that had not hit a daily backup, I decided to boot my XP CD,
install it, get my data, then run the manufacturers reload disk. To my
surprise, the first time I booted with a CD in the CD drive, it booted
up just fine, finished the updates, and I was all set. Sounds AFU, I
know, but just putting the boot able CD in the drive seemed to change
the conditions enough that it got past whatever conditions it had
created for itself - and it booted. Vista is one f'd up OS!

    Might be worth a try.
