Hi guys when trying view web videos on vista i keep getting this error
message which i have never had before. Can you help.

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support
the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress
    the file.

You've encountered error message C00D1199 while using Windows Media
    Player

I found VLC (which I had never heard of before) on a CD that came with
the November 2009 Maximum PC--a mag I seldom read, but the contents of
the CD looked interesting. I got around to installing it two day ago
when I got totally frustrated with WMP, with IMO should be respelled as
"wimp"; the main reason for my frustration was in playing the MS "guess
where the mouse cursor is" game--yet another MS inanity. In my very
limited experience I'm very pleased with VLC. Incidentally, Saint failed
to mention that it's a GNU download--another way to spell freeware; this
    makes it extremely attractive.

This error message usually point toward the media player missing a
certain codec needed to play the video.

I recommend the CCCP (Combined Community Code Pack) which covers most
    file formats.
You can download it 'here' ().

    Glad you got it fixed!

Yes, VLC player is an extremely nice media player, I had it installed
for a little bit and was very pleased with how many fie ypes it
    supported by default.

Allen, a little tip on how you can find the mouse pointer easily:

    1. right click on the desktop
    2. go to Personalize
    3. Mouse Pointers
    4. Pointer Options tab
    5. Check the box "Display location of pointer when pressing CTL key"
    6. APPLY

Now, whenever your pointer is hiding, you will find it easily. Try it.

But it shouldn't hide in wimp. If you want to pause at an exact spot,
you can't fool around with extra keystrokes. A baaaaaad system IMO.
