Vista login "incorrect username or password" with correct username and password entry

Discussion in 'Windows Vista' started by accidentmagnet, Oct 16, 2008.

  1. Windows Vista x64

Have always used automatic login before. Recently added second
administrator account so login screen now appears. When correct password
is entered, the computer says incorrect username or password. This is
true for both accounts. Can not get past the log in screen at all. Can
    not log into the system.

When the password has been used to authenticate administrative tasks
previously, it has been fine. Don't believe I have ever used the login
screen before so this issue may have existed before the second account
was created and only made apparent by this addition.

1.Check your system any tool do you have some kind of viruses.
2.Check do you have the same problem in safe mode - if not->you'll
    change all passwords or reset
3.If you can't login in safe mode as well independly do these accounts
have passwords or not reset them by using ->'Offline NT Password &
    Registry Editor' ()

  4. There are no viruses. Also cannot log into safe mode. Same problem
occurs. NT registry editor did not work. Temporary work around found
    using System Restore.

Re: Vista login "incorrect username or password" with correct user

I have the same problem. I have installed a fresh and genuine copy of Windows
Vista Ultimate x64, do some logon/logout and the system start to refused my
password on every account on my computer, even in safe mode. After a lot of
restarts, the password start working but only for a short time. After some
researches on the Web, I have found that some Toshiba laptop users are
complaining about this problem. I have a Lenovo Thinkvantage T60 computer
with the more recent firmare and BIOS updates installed.

is it the administrator password, or the administrator login password

If it is the administratir login pass this is a method that works for
    me

boot in safe mode *with cmd*

enter control userpasswords2, an application should launch and from
there you can take the login passwords off the admin accounts and should
be able to just press them and log in

    Hope that helped : Cairnsy
