My grandson has an HP Laptop. It has problems, first the package is Vista Home Premium, and IE will not work. I did a lot of updates on the laptop Sunday, must have been at least 15 updates..

I had to install Firefox for a browser to get any programs.. I came with ZA and I could not update it, even though it kept telling me to update. I had to remove, reboot, install a new ZA program.. It came with a few trial programs, there gone now..

IE is the main problem.. When you click on IE and it opens, well it doesn't really open, the screen comes on and a huge box appears telling you that IE crashed, and do you want to investigate as to why. Well it doesn't do what it says..

Second problem the laptop will not read any disc's..I put a music disc in and it does nothing..just makes a wee bit of noise...

The grandson and laptop are gone back to Kalamazoo now, so I'll have to email any ideas..

    Open for thoughts and ideas..

    Hi Oldcrow,

To repair the Internet Explorer crashes, you neesd to reset IE.

    1. Click Start and and type the following command in the Start Search box, inetcpl.cpl[*] Press the Enter key. [*]The Internet Options dialog box will open. [*]Click the Advanced tab. [*]Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click Reset. Then click Reset again. [*]When Internet Explorer finishes resetting, click Close in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box. [*]Start Internet Explorer.

Insert any disk into the CD/DVD drive. Right click on the drive and select open.
Does a window open up with prompt, Please insert a disk in to...?

    Hi Oldcrow,

I repaired a computer this morning with Internet Explorer crashing before it is able to open.

First, follow the instructions in post # 2 to reset Internet Explorer.
    Reset IE
Second, you will need to open a command prompt to register the IEProxy.dll file.

    For IE7....

Click Start > Run > type cmd and then click OK.

At the command prompt, type or copy/paste the following commands.
Press ENTER after you type each command.

    cd %programfiles%\Internet Explorer

    regsvr32 IEProxy.dll

Type exit to close command prompt and Start IE7
    Start Internet Explorer 7.

(Note: If IEProxy.dll fails to register or an error saying it cannot be found occurs,
type or copy/paste the command below typed in red.)

    regsvr32.exe c:\program files\internet explorer\ieproxy.dll

    For IE 8....

Click Start > Run > type cmd and then click OK.

At the command prompt type the following:
    CD\
    CD Program Files
    CD Internet Explorer
    regsvr32 IEProxy.dll
You should receive confirmation that the IEProxy.dll has been registered.
Close all windows and start IE 8.

(Note: If IEProxy.dll fails to register or an error saying it cannot be found occurs,
type or copy/paste the command below typed in red.)

    regsvr32.exe c:\program files\internet explorer\ieproxy.dll
