I have an eMachines PC that came with Vista pre-installed on it.
Recently I installed the Windows7 RC1 on it and it seems to run a lot
faster than it did before. Unfortunately I don't have and benchmarks to
show you the difference in speed, but even my children who use the pc
have commented on how much better Win7 runs vs Vista.

When Win7 is finally released, I'll gladly upgrade all of my pc's to it
and get rid of Vista and XP.

The only problem is that W7 RC is NOT complete, if you recall the very
first XP ran very fast, but then it was found there were so many
security holes and bits missing it only became viable after SP1 - MS
removed the original from distribution and only maintained the XP SP1
version. It got bigger and slower. I think the W7 idea of a separate
package of "Live Essentials" is a much better ides, so that MS can
concentrate on getting the "Core" right and addressing application side
problems on their own is much better with the obvious inherent option of
not installing stuff you know you will never use. However we also don;t
yet know what the various packages will consist of, eg Home, Basic,
    Business or Ultimate do we?

I agree that W7 seems much more ready for release than Vista did, but
    all things can change [IMG]

  3. The Answer Is Yes, Windows 7 RC Works Great On My Dell XPS 630I.

I agree. And I am also seeing that RC1 is getting very good welcoming by the
    market

  5. I think that it will come out pretty well. I haven't seen any glaring
OMG-We'll-All-Die! style of problems with Windows 7 RC. The RC is
honestly very good on its own, and the Pre-RTM builds have been minor
improvements and bug-fixes mostly. You could wait until it hits retail
and some testing has been done. Or you can get in on the current deals
that are being put out for the upgrade packages. They have 50% off deals
for the upgrade packges right now, but that will end before the middle
of the month. Check here on Microsoft's own store site:

I would order the upgrade now, and then you can install it at your
    leisure.

I ordered the upgrade, but right now I am much happier with Vista Home
Premium than I am the Windows 7 RC. I work in IT for a large school system
so I probably should have waited till we got our license, but didn't. I
still like Windows mail better than Windows Live Mail and some of my
programs don't seem to be quite as responsive in Windows 7.

I've always been content with whatever windows came on the computer (XP
or Vista). I would never pay for a Microsoft OS, as I think the price is
nothing short of insanity. Prior to buying a computer with XP, I ran
Linux and was happy. I was happy with XP SP2, and I'm happy with Vista
SP2. The only reason I find any enjoyment in running a partition with
Windows is because it came with the computer. If I paid for an OS I
think I'd suffer health problems. I used to fix windows machines all
day, and the last thing I wanted to see when i got home was a windows
logo on the corner of my screen. It's like driving a Hummer in the Army,
and buying a H1 to drive when I'm off work. Some people actually love
Windows, and more power to them, I love games and the most convenient
way to do it is to suck it up. That being said, I'm downloading 7 as we
speak to see what'll be on my wife's new laptop as her's is approaching
    its death bed.

I am a technician and I just bought my 1st laptop being my 1st Windows
Vista Home Premium PC as well, which I hope to upgrade to Ultimate to
make it more useful to me technically. I have two 6 year old XP Pro
systems that still work wonderful and might be looking at doing a fresh
install again for the 1st time on the one I commonly use. I just
    upgraded my server to 2003.

There is plenty of technicians out there just like me doing the same
thing. I mean, unless you just have the money and time to throw away,
go right ahead. If your not a serious gamer or run extensive
applications that need the new OS, why do so? Because once you get the
new OS, then you need to get the new hardware and software upgrades that
are compatible. Before you know it, a few thousand dollars down the
road you are wondering what the hell did I get myself into.

If what you have works for you, your hardware and it is still
supported, don't pay extra for the headaches you will be dealing with on
a new OS. If you just gotta have it, wait for at least SP1 to come out
on it. From the feedback I have received from co-workers who have
tested W7, I would recommend the Pro or Ultimate version of it.

I hope this was helpful and have a great day!
