I upgraded to windows 10 a few weeks ago and I've used harddrives and the safely remove hardware program a bunch of times. SRH always disappears when I have no external HDD plugged in. But just today my C drive and my internal 4gb sata drive are showing up as removable hardware. What the heck is going on and how do I make it so that doesn't happen?

Even if C: Drive shows as removable drive you can't remove it.It would be annoying. Read of many fixes on the net but only some work for some.
If it were me I would unhook all drives/printers etc and reinstall all motherboard chipset drivers.
Then see if C; Drive is still showing as removable. If not then hook up other drives etc one at a time in a diff sata port.
Quick to do and worth trying. Another would be to do a system restore.

Could be a windows update have screwed things up as Tony suggested.
I would also go into update history and uninstall updates to just prior to this problem.

Hi Brian. My guess if the dates are not shown they are prob Windows Defender updates and nothing to worry about.

Get ready for that the Update to Windows 10 has caused so many issues and no one is talking about it.
First of all the "safely remove hardware" has not been necessary to use since Windows Vista as all drives to day are set to "optimize for quick removal"
making that whole process meaningless and unnecessary so I would just ignore the whole thing. Watch your pc very carefully for networking problems which abound on upgrades
to Windows 10 and remember after 30 days the only way to go back is reinstall Windows whereas as you do have 30 days to go back easily through current Windows 10 version.
Windows 10 is simply an annoying OS on a clean install that is completely unnecessary and makes chores more complicated but as an upgrade, it can be lethal IMHO!
