Start-up time?

Hi,

I have a HP laptop and after 180sec. the system is up, what is what i think
acceptable.

After a few seconds the HDD becomes active and it takes place for about 3
to 4 minutes (during that time is not advisable to start any application).

I did the test already without connecting to internet but no difference.
I am using AVG-virus and for sure no automatic scanning takes place.
Defragmentation is set manually so also from there no background action.

The taskplanner has been been cleaned up and only the following task are
currently
seen: Hotstart, LPRemove, MCupdate (not Mcafee), Napstatus II,
systemSoundService, Systemtask (cerficates) & TMM.
As far as i can understand it is best to keep them...

I have been looking to processes which are running but als there i don't see
any action which could cause it.

Anybody the same experience?

What could be the reason of the HDD activity during that time? What do the
experts advice me to look for?

What does Task Manager say when the disk activity starts; there may be a clue there somewhere.

Here's what I got when I Googled Hotstart, MCupdate, LPRemove, and Napstatus
II I get:

Hotstart -


The link seems to indicate that HP has some preinstalled software (or
something you installed) that uses this for device buttons. It isn't
necessary for Windows but you would want to determine what it is (perhaps a
scanner?) before disabling it.

MCupdate - While this file can also belong to McAfee's Update service, I take
it from your comment that the Media Center Updates is probably the owner. If
you don't use the Media Center, then you don't need this running.

LPRemove is from the Windows Language Pack cleanup and I would leave it
alone.

Have you run the free Autoruns program? It will often give you a better idea
of what is running at startup than other utilties.



How much RAM does your computer have? If under 2GB, that could be the reason
for slow processing. Was the computer always sluggish in the morning? If
not, what changed?

It is a good idea to also look in Event Viewer to see if anything that is
starting with Windows is failing.

My guess would be that a shadow (restore point) is being written. That
happens once per day.

Hi,
The taskmanager is only telling what i mentioned early but for the rest
nothing special.

network resources that no longer exist?

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: If the problem is new, what changed
between the time things worked and the time they didn't?

What other security programs do you have installed - anything like
SpySweeper, etc.? We don't know all the program you have in Startup, just
what you said is left. And where is your AVG entry? You only said that you
"cleaned things up", giving us no knowledge of what you removed.

Have you tried Autoruns for a more precise Startup management tool?

Since we can't see your computer, you're going to need to be more
forthcoming. Simply waiting for someone to give you another general reason
for this behavior and then saying, "no" will make troubleshooting in the
newsgroup lengthy and unrewarding for all concerned. You've gotten a lot of
reasons for startup activity/slowness but these are general answers. How
about giving us some specifics, including the answers to questions already
asked.

Hi, i apreciate very mucht your interest and i am sorry not having answered
to your previous quetions but i saw your immediate reaction to Leroy but
didn't look further at the bottom of the mail so i missed that comment.

By now already some answers: i have to leave and being back i will continue
on it.
-Autorun was marked : disabling it no change
-Hotstart: i performed also a disabling but here als no change (i putted it
back not knowing wat it really do on Mobile PC)
-I have 2 GB Ram
-The PC was always slugging after start-up, i saw it recently also by a
friend (and you could be wright that is HP-related).

I will download the Autorun program and report on it.
The events i have still to analyse, and the explanation file seems very
good.
On the problem solving i will report also.

Hi,
I did some further investagation but didn't found anything.
Autruns executed: i saw nothing special but maybe i didn't look at the
correct place (new for me)
I looked to all the events which may have been running at the time of
discactivity but i dedected nothing
I removed a few HP-action in Msconfig ...no result.
I have no Spysweeper , i use only CCleaner but also manually on a fixed
date.
On the problem reporting and solution nothing special (all older case which
has been solved before).

Any further advice is welcome .
