SP2 Comments?

Well, I haven't seen any SP2 comments, so...

I've applied SP2 to Server 2008 and Vista machines. Installation went
smooth. Results for me were good with better reliability and speed. In
combination with IE8, even better reliability and speed.

    Other experiences?

All good here with vista from day one to SP2.
Will get Win 7 as well when released

    MS is terrific.

  3. From the lack of activity concerning SP2 I am thinking that the install is
going well for most people. A friend got it on his computer and he doesn't
even know how - it went that smoothly.

  7. What are the major (noticable) change in SP2, right now my Windows Update
refuse to work for some reason because the BITS is no able to start, I do
not know what BITS and Windows update have do to with the other but, I am
hoping that installing SP2 will correct this situation

    Any thought about it

BITS is "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" and is used by
Windows Update to download the update files. Windows Update needs this
service turned on, either manually or automatically, when running. Does
not matter if you are attempting to use WU in the automatic mode or
    strictly manually on-demand.

In Vista, click on Start and then type "Services" in the search box.
Launch the Services application and make sure that "Background
Intelligent Transfer Service" is running, then try Windows Update
    again.

Open the BITS item in the list of Services and select the Dependencies
tab. Make sure that the services that it depends on are all enabled,
and trace those backwards the same way, making sure that each is
    enabled.

    > Is there another way to make Windows Update work without BITS

Find out what the updates actually are and download them manually from
    Microsoft's download pages.

Has for the manual download, it is what do now, but I was thining more in
the way of making it automatic like Windows Update does but with out the
BITS, I do not understand why MS change its way of doing things, Windows
Updates were working very well before they introduce BITS and since then
many problem occured for many peoples

In that case, the only suggestion I have left is one that I personally
dislike: Restore back to a point before the problem started, or
reinstall. Maybe someone else has a better suggestion.

BITS has been part of the Windows Update requirements for several
years, at least since XP came out. In my first XP computer, I had
difficulty turning automatic updates off, so I disabled BITS and put a
sticky on my monitor to remind myself to turn it back on when manually
    checking for updates.

It took about 45 minutes and really wasn't a bother with only a re-boot at
    the end.

Also smoother and faster than expected. The typical 45 minutes or so. I
was fully up to date, including IE8 (I normally use FF), already.

About 15-20 minutes was spent 'downloading' but I didn't see any network
activity, so it may already have downloaded it in the background and was
    verifying it?

The most obvious change I've noticed is the login prompt appears much
faster. It used to take about 1:45 to 2 minutes. Now it's about 1
minute. I still wait about 3-4 minutes to let other junk continue to
start up. No matter which version of Windows I've used, I've found
logging in too fast sometimes causes weird issues.

I'm in no rush for Vista 2.0 (aka Windows 7). My old computer came with
Win2K, and I never updated it to XP (it now dual-boots 2K and Ubuntu). I
bought my current computer 9/07 with Vista.

I have that problem with XP and earlier. I now have two Vista systems
(Ultimate x86 laptop and Home Premium x64 desktop) and I've found
through trial and (no) error that I don't actually have to do that
    anymore.

What I have found with my two Vista systems is that if I log in
immediately when the login screen appears and the "busy/wait" cursor
changes to a plain pointer, it simply takes longer for the Desktop to
fully load. If, otoh, I do wait longer before logging in, the desktop
loads faster. So it's more a matter of when I want to wait, not if I
    want to wait. :)

I do plan on getting Win7 and upgrading one of my three systems with
it, I just haven't decided yet which one (in addition to the two Vista
systems I also have an XP Pro desktop that is now serving as a media
    device in my living room).

    Bill,

Microsoft has released Windows 7RC. For more information and access to the
