Since installing SP2 my internet connection only allows me local connection
90% of the time. My service provider told me to remove SP2 because everything
was working well before the install. Can anybody give me some advice on how
to overcome these issues or tell me how to remove SP2 if this is the only way
to enjoy the www once again????? I use a mobile wireless card and vista.

I had similar trouble recently and it turned out that some setting was
making me disconnect from my broadband connection and work offline. This was
not only affecting IE8 but MailWasher, Windows Live Mail and FTP Voyager.
However I discovered that my connection was working fine with FireFox and
that ESET Smart Security was updating itself during boot up. I could connect
to three ISPs (including my own) using a slow FAX modem. The solution was to
reset all Internet Options and all other IE8 settings to their factory
defaults. Since then things have been back to normal. Most of us at this NG
must have installed SP2 by now and your ISP's suggestion to uninstall it is
throwing away the baby with the bathwater. It is however possible that a
rogue setting was latent on your PC until SP2 tightened Vista's security.

If you do pin the problem down more specifically I would like to know, as I
am aware that I only stumbled upon my "solution", that I may have
misdiagnosed and that my solution might not prove permanent. Nevertheless
resetting things to their defaults can be a useful and low risk approach to
    such problems.

BTW my ISP is Freedom2Surf (a subsidiary of Tiscali). Throughout the last
period of downtime their website showed all their systems including
broadband were working normally. These incidents do seem to coincide with
    weekends.
