Hi guests and members! Here are my thoughts. If you up grade your OS to W10 and you hate it; or something doesn't work like it did when you were running your old OS, then just roll it back to your old OS. Don't make it difficult and don't let W10 upset you. I thought my old printer wouldn't work with W10. It now works just fine with a minor adjustment. If you can't fix the issue and it's one that is really bugging you, ask here on CHF. Maybe someone here has a answer. If you really hate it, roll back to your old OS. That's pretty simple.
I always high lite members name when quoting them. I consider that to be a Southern gentleman's courtesy and I would like the same thing when you are quoting my replies.;);)

My new pc ran fine for 3 weeks on Windows 7 with Paltalk. All of a sudden trouble. Could it be a Windows UPdate? Yes. I also installed Acronis True Image so before I give up here and go back to 7, I will uninstall same and use System Restore to go back to last week Paltalk worked.

Hi ! @Rich-M You have me a little confused!! You're saying Paltalk worked fine for 3 weeks on W7 and then you had trouble, and you're going to try some things before you go back to W7. I'm always getting notifications that Paltalk wants to up date. I allowed that one time and Paltalk put some PUP's on me. That ain't never going to happen again.. I don't see how Acronis or windows up dates could affect Paltalk, but who knows! Computers are very strange and will drive you to drinking!

Paltalk worked fine on new Windows 7 PC for 3 weeks. Then I upgraded to Windows 10 and it also worked fine for 2 weeks.
This week I could not get it to open and I could not get a new version to install either. However I fixed it. Emsisoft was blocking it but not telling me. It was also preventing the install.

Too many millions of users install their software so I am not buying there are pups installed but at least Emsisoft agrees with you!

OH OK! I think Emsisoft is right on. I saw the ASK toolbar when Paltalk tried to get me to up date Paltalk.
Paltalk also put a icon on my desk top about some store. I don't remember the particles but I deleted every thing and now when I'm offered the up date, I just click it off! I'm thinking Emsisoft knows about that and maybe others have reported Paltalk.
I don't know . It seems Emsisoft is doing a good job for you.

Emsisoft is the best as far as I am concerned but in this case it's reacting to false positives. The install shows you the ask toolbar, no tricks and the software is safe, I have used it for yours and so have millions of others.

I only know what I have experienced. If you think Emsisoft is reacting to a FP, then you should report it.You're the one that brought this all up.
I'm only agreeing with what you're reporting. I saw the ASK tool bar and even though I opted out, a icon was placed on my desk top that I did not want or approve. There are a lot of freeware programs that never tried to install PUP's until lately. These days you have to be very careful with freeware. I really don't know what you want me to say. I don't know Jeeves. I figured you were close by Dougie.;) I'm not arguing. If you think it's a FP, report it to Emsisoft.
I believe Emsisoft got it right!

    My experience.
Every new computer I build I install Paltalk. There is no option to prevent the "Ask Toolbar" from automaically installing. Next, I delete the Desktop Icon to upgrade.
You don't want the "Ask Tool Bar" then run Malwarebytes which picks it up as a P.U.P.
    Remove it with Malwarebytes.
I personally remove the "Ask Toolbar" P.U.P. however some people decide to keep it.
I don't like anything installed on my computers I don't ask for.

IMHO The ASK tool bar is malware. I don't know why anyone would want to keep it. If MBAM picks it up as a PUP, then that is telling me that it's some thing I don't want on my PC. When I clean up seniors PC's here in my village, I find this ASK tool bar all the time.
How to Geek has nothing good to say about ASK tool bar. Java will try to install it on your PC and that where seniors pick it up. I really don't know what we're trying to say. Emsisoft is doing it's job! I've said all I care to say about this. See what "How To Geek" thinks!
The bottom line for me is if any program tries to install the ASK tool bar on me, it's bad news.

False positive=False positive: A result that indicates that a given condition is present when it is not. An example of a false positive would be if a particular test designed to detect cancer returns a positive result but the person does not have 'cancer.

Now let's be clear about something else. the Ask Toolbar is not Malware. It is a bad guy and it helps enable Malware but it is not Malware and neither is a "pup". "PUP" means "probably unwanted program". A pup can also be considered a Malware enabler but its important we be accurate here as we certainly would not want a lawsuit from them that would be easily winnable. Dougie is right the genesis of Ask was in "Ask Jeeves" and it was originally a decent program. The problem with Ask is "the company you keep" more than actual Malware and it certainly is not desirable to have onboard for that reason

Hi What ever you want to call the ASK toolbar, it's not desirable to have on your PC. Here's a link that will help you get rid of it if your unfortunate and let it install on your PC. Was waiting for someone to post this, but sense no one has, I will.;) Malwarebytes has a program that will help.
Junkware Removal Tool is custom built to detect and remove over 250 junkware variants, including adware and unwanted toolbars.
If ASK is still around, try the link from Malwaretips.
    https://www.malwarebytes.org/junkwareremovaltool/
@Kenny94 may have a better suggestion, but here's how i remove the ASK toolbar!
Ask offers a web search engine (ask.com) and toolbar which are being promoted via other free programs and once installed on your computer, they will hijack your browser homepage and replace your default search engine.
    https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-ask-toolbar-and-search/
The bottom line is the ASK toolbar is bad news. Call if what ever you want. I have a name for it, but not suitable for prime time. This is why I was so up set when it tried to install on my PC.
You will find a lot of freeware that will try to install ASK and that includes Paltalk. So be very careful when down loading freeware.:(:(

Hi If you're wondering why my MBAM pro didn't find the above; I'm also wondering that! I was a bit surprised when JKT found those things. I really wasn't expecting that. I just ran it to show how it works. OH well!

ASK toolbar is not considered malware.. But they promote a lot of "adware" products.

Like I said! ASK is bad news. MBAM JRT should get rid of it if you are unfortunate, and it gets installed on your PC.
Thanks @Kenny94 ! I think we all have our thoughts about ASK.;):( I see it way to often here at Golden Oaks and I remove it.

I have had Paltalk ask about installing the Ask toolbar. I usually run my anti-virus on the installer (before install) and choose the clean option when it finds the Ask toolbar. Paltalk will still install and no worries about Ask toolbar installing.
