When I put the Asus W10 Laptop in Sleep by closing the lid it seems to go into Hibernate or turn off after awhile and has to be turned on again.. Is there a way to make it stay in Sleep longer or indefinitely. I would like it in Sleep until I decide to turn it off, if this is possible. Did not find a way to do this. did find IN POWER OPTIONS how to set so closing lid would put in Sleep.

Uh Oh.....I was afraid of that. My XP and 7 seem to stay in sleep a lot longer though. But this is odd. I looked at this on the XP and it says same thing on chart but as your picture but it is set for "Standby- Never". Yet I just close lid at night and the next day open and it wakes right up. Maybe I should try setting the W10 power option to Never as the XP is set?? Think I will try that now.

Hi BG I have mine set to never sleep. My PC is either running or shut off. Most of the time my PC is on.
You have to decide what you want friend. Play around till you get the settings you want.;)
When I shut my lid, my PC turns off. That's the way I want it!

Checked and both the XP and 7 are set to Never, but I THOUGHT they were in SLEEP. What ARE they really in when I close the lid as it says to take that action when lid is closed? Isnt it contradictory to say Sleep when lid closed and then say NEVER to sleep? Am I making mistake in interpretation?
When I open the lid again shortly or after much more than 5 hours the PC screen is dark but then lights right up. Is it in sleep or not?? I am now confused how to tell if it IS in sleep or simply ON all the time which I do not really want it to be.
I believe setting w10 to Never will do it.
I just clicked Start>Sleep on 7 and Start>Turn Off Computer>Standby on XP and BOTH seemed to go into standby or sleep just like when I close the lid then come on the same way when I open it.

It looks like I should set to NEVER and to go to sleep when lid is closed.
But is yours running, or in sleep, if you close your lid? Assuming it is SET to sleep when lid closed.

I posted this before I saw your note about advanced. I will have to study this more.

If you want more then 5 hours, then you need to go into advanced settings, post #5. It looks like you can set it for as long as you want!!

I think I have it now. Will let you know tomorrow. You are not confusing me...in fact I appreciate the help. Finally getting started on the w10 after having some sort of virus for awhile. It was just that setting it to sleep Never then elsewhere setting it to sleep seemed contradictory.
But I worked on advanced settings and set Never to Hibernate but only to sleep or shut down and I think it is the way I want it now. Power button only turns it on or shuts it down
I am closing lid now, which seems to work the same as when I click Start>Sleep and I have it set to use no passwords so it comes right on.
Will let you know tomorrow. Thanks. BG

This setting will prevent the computer from going to sleep UNLESS you close the lid. If you close the lid, it will go to sleep.

My preference, under Control Panel > Power options
Shut down when Power button is pressed.
Sleep when the Sleep button is pressed.
Hibernate when the lid is closed.

    Under Plan Settings
Turn off display - 5 minutes
Put computer to sleep - 15 minutes.
