    Hi there,

I've just started using sleep mode the past month and recently it
hasen't been working correctly, i'm using Vista x64 Ultimate.

Most of the time it works fine, but occasionally the computer won't go
to sleep and will just sit there doing nothing, the screen is black and
nothing happens. The only way to get back into windows is to restart.

I've read everything in the tutorial section and it hasn't helped. I
have a Asus maximus formula motherboard (1302 BIOS) and a Nvidia EVGA
GTX 285 with 185.85 drivers. I also have a Razer Tarantula keyboard
(latest firmware) with a sleep button, which i've been using to put my
    computer to sleep.

I've tried everything and ran out of ideas, any help would much
    appreciated, thanks.

Vista sleep is very troublesome. You might try an upgrade to SP2 if
you haven't, there seem to be some improvements (intentional on MS's
    part or not).

You might also want to post in the Asus mobo group. There might be
    some Asus specific help there.

Someone here should have some tips on tracking down errant hardware or
software that is kicking it back up and preventing sleep. One area
that's a popular problem is USB connected devices.

  3. My sleep is perfect. I don't have a solution, but in addition to alal other
advises can you check Devicemanager-->mice-->select your
mouse-->properties-->power settings or something to that effect.

If there's a checkbox next to 'allow this device to wake up computer frm
sleep" or similar, is checked, please uncheck it.
Don't allow slight mouse movements to wake up Vista from sleep, you might
have virbation in your room, etc.

  4. is anybody dialing your modem or network acitivity? dont allow those
    devices to wake up system

As the previous poster states, USB devices can be the cause
It is in my case, when the problems only occurred after installing a new
Printer (all pwr options now erratic)
Both PC (Dell Vostro desktop) and Printer (HP) manufacturer are unable to
    help
(Bios, drivers, firmware all up to date from manufacturers)

    Thanks guys,

I think i found the problem. I installed SP2 about 2 weeks ago and
that's when i started having problems.

I was looking through the tutorial again and noticed my Multimedia
settings in the power options was changed to away mode instead of..."Set
to Allow the computer to sleep". For some reason SP2 must have changed
    the sleep settings.

It seems to be working so far, so hopefully that was the problem.

I had the same... wasn't sleeping after the SP2 ... noticed in task
manager that media play was there even though not playing. For some reason
media player occasionally does not exit properly I assume since vista SP2
    upgrade.

Changing the power cfg's to sleep with it active fixed the sleep.... but
certainly didn't stop media player from occasionally not exiting properly.
