I have a Canon MX700 Multifunction printer. It has buttons on it that
allow me to scan or fax directly from the unit. When trying to scan
to computer, a dialog pops up "Select the program to launch for this
action:" There is no option (like in xp) for always use the select
program. However, when accessing the >control panel>scanners and
cameras> selecting my canon device and selecting the events tab, there
are options for setting default events and actions. However, when
attempting to set the event and action, I get an error message stating
"event registration failed", and the setting remains unchanged. Are
there any solutions for this problem? Thanks.

    I've uploaded a screenshot here:

    thanks.

And who are you? Why should the OP go to the web forum instead of here?
Certainly it's another venue for free tech support, but you give the
impression that you're chasing him away.

Usually the buttons on your scanner are controlled by the scanner software.
Make sure you have the latest version of the scanner software installed. It
sounds like you need to install this program.

I agree with both parts of your reply :)
