A wee reminder that the FREE offer to Upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 expires July 28, 2016. Don't miss the opportunity!

You can get an "extension" if you by select/buy Skylake processors for an extra year if I am not mistaken. Makes me want to go back to AMD and Windows 7. Hell, AMD should offer free Windows 7 OEM keys with a link to GWX control in the box that the processor is in. I do not like MS's strongarm tactics and planting dubious upgrades in Windows updates for lay-folk that do not know what is going on and they end up with a beta + operating system (which is what Windows 10 is). Taking complete control away from the major user base is awful.

It, actually, makes for fewer problems & less potential for things going awry w/ the current WU scenario than what was in the past. A big improvement over the past is WU, now. Hard to see the point of change sometimes. No "strongarming" involved, more like evolving technology.

Even MS themselves admitted they have been over zealous in pushing W10.
I wouldn't say strongarm tactics, more gutter tactics pushing Windows 10 on those who don't want Windows10.
A dam hide secretly downloading files on peoples computers without their knowledge.
I see no difference in MS tactics to a Hacker.
I would like to see a world wide class action against MS stealing our personal information and selling it to third parties for monetary gain. No wonder W10 is free.
I am entitled to my opinion.

It's a given everyone is entitled to opinion.

The idea that something is being forced because someone doesn't want Windows 10 has a flaw. There is no picking OSs like flavours @ an ice cream counter... There IS going to be Windows 10. It is going to endure and eventually its predecessors will fade away. Ergo, one can balk @ 10, delay it, but, alas, want OR NOT is a moot point. It's here & it's not going away and it will, still, be here after others are gone. It a matter of time not emotions. Some talk like individuals about Operating Systems designed & built to serve global applications. Time moves on & in the computing world it moves very fast. @ least, now, there is no longer anything about old or new OSs or making fusses over the newest or what works w/ what or what is better or not... instead, one thing everywhere (devices) and everywhere (locations), harmonious, simple & nice. 10 is still new, soon everyone will be accustom to it & there won't even be discussions about old OSs anymore. Time marches on & so does technology.

NB: 10 will download to a machine having accepted the "Get Windows 10" not, otherwise AND it will not automatically Upgrade a machine, will not start itself; installing it must be done by the End User.

There really are two separate issues here one being the Upgrade and the other being Windows 10. Say what you want about Microsoft forcing the upgrade on users in any way they can,
but in doing it to any old Windows 7 or 8.1 system the odds are the upgrade will be a disaster because upgrades unless a near virgin install of the earlier os usually only magnifies the issues imho.
I have had a few where I could restore to the earlier version of Windows and even that didn't go well in a few cases. One had no network and the other couldn't get their printers to work and I tried everything on both.
As a clean install you have to decide how you feel about Windows 10, but the upgrade itself is my real issue and trying to force feed it to everyone and yes sooner or later we all have to accept Windows 10 because the others will be gone.

When we went from 7 to 8 there seemed to be negative issues sometimes when Upgrading. And it often seemed a clean install was maybe a 'safer' approach. I will say that I feel the Upgrade to or for Windows 10 is a very different animal. The can be a lot more confidence in the Win10 Upgrade than there was w/ the similar idea in the past.

Now, although, I do read in Forums about such negative things w/ the Upgrade to 10 & accept & respect them... I'll say the following:

    1. One must have a sound foundation on which to build. The prior OS must be clean & healthy.
    2. No, it is not because the previous OS is on too old a machine. There are countless instances of Win10 successfully installing and running nicely on older not very robust machines.
    3. Personally I know of far more successful Upgrades to 10 than otherwise.
    4. Myself, I have Upgraded many machines, both new & used, w/out one single negative issue in any of them, @ the time or later.

The other thing to note here is anyone is welcome after Upgrading to turn around & do a clean install on that same machine, @ any subsequent time.

I suppose its a matter of experience. I know of no successful Upgrades when the system had been running for a serious amount of time.
Recently I have done quite a few where the pc had barely been used and they were successful.
