Re: Windows Explorer keeps crashing when I attemp to move files

Discussion in 'Windows Vista' started by spawnywhippet, Jun 3, 2009.

  1. I get this error 100% of the time when I try to copy or move files in
Explorer. (I mean, who would ever need to do that?!) The process does
not continue in the background and will hang forever. The files that
were being copied or moved become tombstones and I cannot delete or open
them unless I boot in Safe mode.
In order to move files on my Vista machine, I have to map to it with a
XP machine and move the files from the XP Explorer. My Vista machine is
patched to SP2, fully updated, latest drivers and new BIOS. I
reinstalled with a clean Vista and its just the same. Any clues?

Reformat the hard drive before reinstalling?

If you did, then you might want to consider taking a look at your hard
drive's health. Check the manufacturer's web site for their hard drive
    testing program.

Might also want to check your BIOS manufacturer's site to see if there
have been any buglets reported with a flash upgrade.

  3. Ye, the drive was re-partitioned and formatted. The machine with the
same BIOS absolutely flew with XP installed, no faults. I'm convinced
this is a Vista, not a hardware problem, especially as Google finds this
    problem 1000's of times.

Try running the Memory Diagnostic Tool. Start orb and type in memory... it
should popup on the top of the list.

That's not really enough to on. Did you Check for Solutions? Does that
    give you a bucket ID?
