Although this thread is old, it's new to me. The consensus seems to be
that the "unknown device"/ISATAP bug in Windows Vista is harmless and
can be ignored. But the continual presence of the prompt on screen is
    annoying.

When it first manifested in my Vista Home Premium 32, I could click
cancel or X and the message would go away. Now I have to click a dozen
    times to make it vanish.

That may be related to the fact that "unknown device" inow appears a
dozen times in my Network Adapters list, and ISATAP appears there five
    times.

Clicking on these items sometimes gives the message "This device is not
working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers ..." and
sometimes a message that "the best driver software for your device is
already installed," which seems contradictory. When I click on any of
these items in order to disable or uninstall them from the system, I get
    warning prompts.

Can I safely disable or uninstall the five ISATAP items and the 12
"unknown device" items listed under Network Adapters? And is there any
way to prevent the bug from recurring indefinitely?
