    I had the same problem. Only when I typed 'v' into the Vista start menu
    search did Windows Explorer crashed. I solved it by:

    => open start menu
    => right click on blank area of start menu
    => Properties
    => Start Menu tab
    => Customize... button
    => Uncheck Search Communications

    If that doesn't work I'd play around with changing the search settings
    (same place). I hope this helps somebody searching the web for answers
    like I commonly am.
