  1. Brenda,
    did you get an answer?
I know you can install on XP, then upgrade to Vista and it works.
however i've just put a fresh install of Windows 7 on my notebook, and
    have the same issue.

QuickBooks 2007 or later will run on Vista. I will assume that Windows 7 has
the same restrictions on QuickBooks access to system files.

If you are so advanced to be using Window 7, give QuickBooks 2010 a try...

  3. Charles,

I had Quickbooks 2002 running very happily on Vista. Just because of
the crappy way Quicken install the software it won't install. I'm happy
with QB2002 as a product. I don't need it to do much, and am not
prepared to buy into Quickens never ending need to upgrade.

I've got past most of the issues. Just getting an error saying that
"Quickbooks could not locate a valid Installation Key Code on this
    machine."

I have a two user license, and copied all the files from the system
that works (Windows Server 2003). I copied the appropriate system32 dlls
    and ran reboot.bat

I exported the Intuit registry settings and imported them.

Just feel I'm missing something small.

  4. I actually got it to run. Ran process explorer from sysinternals. found
it was trying to access the intuit registration settings under
wow6432node. So exported the registry registration key, change the key
by adding wow6432node to thekey ie, ... software\wow6432node\intuit

    imported the requistry settings.

    Just need to re-register it.
