You completely missed my point. There is currently very little or no
pressure on MS. At least that is the way they proceed to do business. BTW
    - I know a whole host of 'non-geeks' using Linux. We have Linux on 13 of
the 14 public access internet computers at the local library. Folks have
been using them for over four years and zero complaints to date - a
sizable number of them seem to be unaware they're not useing an MS
product. And, for the record, we have six home computers networked
together. One of them may be capable of booting XP - I'm not sure because
I haven't tried since we got it (immediately installed Linux on it and
that's what we've used). We've been 100% Linux for over five years.

Allow me to explain in plain English.
    You said:
"First of all the Google OS is FREE and very limited. Second, it will be
geared towards notebooks so it is probably a very stripped down version."

The sentence "First of all the Google OS is FREE and very limited." means
Google has produced an OS. The sentence "Second, it will be geared towards
notebooks so it is probably a very stripped down version." means Google will
release an OS. You appear to be referring to the same product, yet you've
combined present tense with future tense. As far as I know, Google hasn't
released any OS, and has one planned for release next year. So, to make
your statements true you should have said "First of all the Google OS will
be FREE and very limited. Second, it will be geared towards notebooks so it
is probably a very stripped down version."

I'll put in another vote that the only place I've ever seen Linux users is
on a tech related newsgroup. I don't know anyone who actually uses it, don't
see them at the coffee shop, on jobs or in their homes. All seems to be
Windows or Mac that I see in the real world.

OK so I should have said that the OS will be free. Big deal. I don't

You contradicted yourself by telling us what it 'is' then speaking of
what it 'will be' when it hasn't even been released yet. I don't know how
I can make it any more clear, but then you can't teach calculus to the

I'm not disputing your public library or your personal experiences. I'm just
telling you about my experiences. NOT ONCE have I ever seen Linux in use in
a personal computer in my fairly normal day to day life. Not in my library,
not in the homes of my friends, not at the coffee shop, not at the airport
or on flights, not in the retail stores I go to, not in the computer
oriented stores small and large I go to, not in emails from my friends and
acquaintances. The ONLY place I ever hear about Linux is on newsgroups and
    tech blogs.

I would however be curious about your "multitude" of examples because I just
don't see a multitude of anything when it comes to Linux. Certainly the
adoption figures I see bantered about the internet do not support use of the
word multitude. Your relatively small and geographically isolated community
in Idaho may indeed have a bigger adoption rate for linux for whatever
reasons but I sure don't see that in many other places.

Well there you go, another internet specific unix forum with a personal
photo link. Once again, I'll say I've never seen much about Linux anywhere
    except for tech blogs.

With Windows and Mac one doesn't have to "read the first post and then look
at the pic in the link in that post" to find Windows and Mac.

Seems to be from 2003, so maybe not relevant.

You asked who uses Linux in the real world, I provided a link showing a
company that does, in the real world.

One company = a "whole host of 'non-geeks'"?
What company is that? How do we know they're not geeks?
I bet you could find a few more, but reality is about 95% of IBM-PC machines
    run a MS OS.
Most companies now are running XP Pro.

From the site you linked to:
"As of 2008-03-23, there are 717 entries in this list."

Although it's old (472 days, a bit over a year and a quarter), it's not
    2003 :)

No, actually I said that I haven't seen it in MY "real" world. I only see it
on the internet in tech links like the one you provided. One would expect to
see links like that on a "fixunix" web site under ubuntu. I'm not disputing
your link I'm just saying it's not very prevalent and in my day to day,
going about my non tech business real life it just doesn't seem to exist.
