Hi I'm getting "a program needs your permission to continue"

how do I add the program to a trusted list so I dont get this any more.

Im bouncing around lots of different programs and its driving me crazy, I
need to stop this for selected programs that I trust like putty

You can turn UAC off, but maybe you ought to ask why these programs are
giving you the message in the first place. Are they Vista compatible?

    Hi,

This occurs when the program tries to write to or alter a protected system
folder, such as those under \Windows or \Program Files. In Vista, a program
should be running virtually from the user appdata, but this does not occur
with older non-compliant software. In order to use it, you must acknowledge
allowing it access to the protected folders. This somewhat annoying process
has two functions, one being to make the user aware that a program wants
access to protected areas, and secondly to force software writers out of the
very bad habit of running programs from system folders (something that a)
invites corruption of system files and [IMG] makes it easy for malware to get
    ingrained into the system).

There is a process described here to work around this issue, it's not
    something native to Vista:

There is no 'trusted list'. You need to use Vista compliant software,
because you will not get the prompt. Or you disable UAC to disable the
    prompts, which is not recommended.

Better yet, nuke Vista and install a real operating system like Ubuntu.

You can't. You can turn off the feature (UAC) entirely or leave it
    alone.

tried switching UAC off that solved it,
but wel well microsoft instantly started bugging me about a security error
    it didnt like.
get rid of on anoyance and microsft replaces it with another.

    Problem really solved now
    1. format disk
    2. install linux
    3. install open office
    4. install linux versions of the other programs vista didnt like

PC runs twice as fast now as it did under vista

discussed with technical director about changing the whole company off
microsft and onto linux 8400 users and over 500 servers.

retraining all users is less than 5% the cost of of implimenting new
microsoft versions as our main solution

GOODBYE microsoft you just lost a major client

    When will you ever learn.

Yes, because none of the programs that will run under Vista and XP will be
on the Linux machine. They will be little software on it.

    What?
Linux machines are loaded with software.

And what isn't there, can be had with such a command as yum update @sound-
    and-video.

You people really gotta use linux before you insult it.

In Windows, try typing install firefox, and see what happens.

It's truly unbelievable...the rampant need to use what is shoved down one's
    throat.

Bet you wear a tee-shirt that announces the sneakers you wear.

    Exactly

A CLEAN install not all the crap that microsoft rams down your throat that
    you forced to install

we only need a word processor, spread sheet, email and some of our inhouse
    applications

so easy to re-write for linux

i did some basic costing and if it come out in around the area i think my
boss said i'll get a pay rise and a new company car 2 levels up from what im
    allowed now

linux has other hidden benifits lol

This is totally outrageous. You have no clue, none, as to what you're
doing or talking about. You have no clue as to the total cost of
conversion from one platform infrastructure to another. And apparently
    your boss doesn't either.

Teaching someone to use TBird and Open Office isn't exactly a difficult
transition, sport. Slipping a Linux distro into a DVD ROM/RAM isn't either.

8,400 users and 500 servers is minuscule to say the least about it. This
also indicates that neither one of you have a clue about what it takes
to covert from one platform infrastructure to another infrastructure.

Gosh, installing a Linux server is so hard for morons like you that you
have to lie again to try and cover up your inability to run Linux.

Are you this stupid, home-user? You have never gone through a conversion
of applications in-house written that is using a different file
structure, databases, Web services, a totally different back-end
    infrastructure, programming languages, etc, etc.

You do NOT know what you are talking about, and what it really takes.

Keep on posting, looking like some kind of a clown.

Oh, you now change the subject to something you know nothing about and
assume that the change would be difficult even though you don't know
what programs the OP was talking about, speaking of clueless clowns.

This is total garbage from you. I do in-house development work as a
contractor. I have gone through the conversion of applications from one
platform to a different platform on more than a few occasions to know
    what it takes.

I have converted servers applications from one platform to another
platform along with in-house applications that run on the servers. I
have gone through the data conversion between like applications on
    different platforms.

I have taken applications that were written in one language and
converted them over to another language. I have been down the road that
you have never traveled in your life on more than a few occasions.

You have a corporation there stupid, and there are other stake holders
there that are going to be at the table and have a say as to what
happens, other than OP and his boss.

You are talking off the wall smoke and mirror nonsense, plain and simple
from a dumb home-user perspective, and you have no clue as to what it
takes to execute a conversion from one platform to another platform, nor
do you know what you are talking about.

You can comeback a post some more smoke and mirror nonsense, because
    your head is too hard.

I am through with you and your idiocy, get lost.

Again, you do not know what programs the OP is referring to and come up
with your CV in a lame attempt to cover up the fact that you don't know
    what you're talking about.

If you want me to "get lost", make me.
