Hey guys, I've just finsihed my switch over of HDDs

    This is now my setup:

C:\ 500GB HDD - Has OS and programs installed

    E:\ 1TB HDD - Has Files.

I have changed the file paths of Documents etc, to the E Drive and that works fine.

My problem comes with downloading files. When I download fiels through Firefox, they go to my Downloads folder in the E drive, but when I try and run these programs from the Downloads box in Firefox, it says I dont have permission:

    Permissions Error.jpg

Then asks me how to open it?

    LaunchApplication.jpg

As far as I know I have full contorl over the E drive, I have added my user and Administrators to have full control, and Firefox is also open as an admin. UAC is also turned off.

    Any ideas? :S

Just annoying that everytime, I have to navigate through my folders to find a file that I just downloaded.

    Cheers :)

Try changing the downloads path within firefox to a different dir and then changing it back. My guess is that firefox has no permission on the folder and changing it and then changing it back could work. Of course you could always have firefox prompt where to download the file to.

I tried changing it to a folder on the C drive, but the same thing happened, said I didn't have permissions to open it.
And I don't want it to ask where to download to, because I will still have to navigate around to find it as it wont even open the containing folder for the same reasons. I have to manually find it.

Also made sure I had full control of Firefox's permissions too.

    Interesting I have

160G HDD with OS C: and recovery Partition on it

and a 500G partitioned into 3 D: ,E: and G: G has a Backup of the Recovery Partition. D: has Documents on it and Download folder.

I use Firefox but also Zone Alarm Pro which when a download completes jumps in scans the file and asks me if I want to open it or leave it.

and I have no problems so I suggest you get a Copy of Zone Alarm Pro :p

when you go to your downloads folder and find the file you downloaded can you open it? and have you checked what the files permissions are once downloaded?

and have you checked your downloads file's permissions, as If I think right if your Downloaded file will automatically be assigned its parent files permissions.

and check the files ownerships if the system is the default owner of the downloads file then it could also be causing problems.

If I manually navigate to my downlaods folder I have no trouble opening anything.
It's just when trying to open it from Firefox, as I said, I tried changing the downlaod location to a place in the C drive, which is the same drive as the application, and yet that wouldn't work either.

The permissions for the E drive and C drive, is that I have full control, and I have checked the Downloads folder itself and I have full control :S

The bit I don't understand is why it doesn't have permission to open a file on the same drive. That would be the same setup as if I had only one drive :S

I am not sure how FF works in terms of files (its an evil evil piece of kit to me  )
I would Uninstall FF and then reinstall it, chances are when you moved everything that FF is not designed to be moved the same way that Windows is (why would MS do this :) )

FF was redownloaded :p as I wiped the entire HDD. But I shall venture onwards and try reinstalling it again :)

Tried reinstalling it now, and same problem.

One thing I noticed that confuses me, is the error says that Windows cant access the file, not Firefox...

Not at all. I'm living with it, but it's still annoying.

I found out then when I right clicked on the file in the Firefox downloads window, and selected "Open Containing Folder", it would error and say "RPC Server is unavailable".

So I went into services, and checked around for a RPC server and found 2; "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" Was already enabled, but I also found "Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator" Which was disabled. So I tried enabling it and restarting windows, to find that it hasn't solved the problem :(

    So nope, problem not resolved.
