    Hi,,
i have seen this done in XP, but never seen it in Vista, While contracting
at a couple of firms, i have seen on the desktop of every pc, details of the
pc, network ip, subnet, d/f gateway etc etc

Can this be configured in Vista, if so how and where? Is it a built in
    feature of group policy?

    Regards..

You need to run a program to do this. This program from Microsoft
    Sysinternals works well.
