My computer will not always boot up when turned on with the rear power switch and then pushing the start switch. The monitor will eventually say "no signal." Sometimes the computer will go through startup procedures and work properly. Other times it will start startup procedures and and then stop before completing the full sequence. At this point the front start switch will not even let me turn off the computer so I have to turn it off in the rear. This has been going on for about a month. When I get a successful boot up, the computer works flawlessly--at least for a while. This computer is a home built and is about 8 years old. I would like to repair this computer rather than buy a whole new one.

Hi and welcome Computer Help Forums.:)
Did this issue start after a Windows update, do you know?
Have you run the startup repair?
What trouble shooters have you run?

    Hi Redgoat.

In addition to the details that Dougie asked:

At the times it doesn't start up, do you see any lights come on? Do you hear the fans? If not, do you happen to have another power supply you can try?

The answers will help to clarify if you have a software or hardware issue.

The first thing I'd do is swap out the power supply.

I usually have a spare power supply. It might not be the correct wattage but it is good enough to test the computer and see if the psu is the problem.

If the wattage varies a lot, then only connect minimum items like one hard drive and graphics card.
If it boots up correctly several times in a row, you've found the problem.
