The network icon (two small computers with a blue world in the middle)
on the information task bar located in the lower right corner.

Well I was online and a myspace link popped up, after closing it the
same link popped up over and over again as it has before, so as I have
done before I restarted my computer. When I restated my computer the
network icon had an 'x' where the earth would be if the wireless was on.
I went to click on the icon and it wouldn't open. I had to right click
to log into my wireless. I wasn't so worried until my computer was
telling me 'yes i was connected to my wireless' but the icon was saying
    'no you're not'.

I went to the properties, and removed the icon then replaced it. Same
thing. I even shut down my computer, waited, restarted. Same thing.

    I'm getting VERY worried now.

    Can anyone help me?

ps: sorry for any bad spelling or grammar errors =[

Your computer is infected. You may be able to clean it by simply using
Malwarebytes' Anti-malware (MBAM) from www.malwarebytes.org. If MBAM alone
doesn't fix the issue, here are more thorough removal steps:

    http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair
shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad).

I have SUPER AntiSpyware, would that work the same or do I need to use
the program you posted?" Also would the problem me able to be fixed if I
simply called Dell and had them fix it over the phone?

It may not be as simple as using one program to fix. Do you have any
Anti-Virus software installed? You need a combination of about three program
to be somewhat safe from infection. Only taking one step may not do it. Did
you read the article I posted?

SuperAntiSpyware is good, too. The point was that scanning with one program
like MBAM or SAS might get the job done, sparing you the very thorough
scanning process outlined in the link I already gave you. It's your choice.

I have no idea whether Dell will take you through removing spyware/viruses
or not. IMO you'll probably just get a bottom-tier CS who will tell you to
    reinstall Windows.

The network icon with the x through it means for unknown reasons your Vista
    can't reach to the Internet.

If you weren't connected to the wireless access point (router/gateway) it
would be switching between a network with an x icon and a signal bar icon.

To illustrate, right-click on the network icon and disconnect from the
wireless. Watch the network icon switch back and forth between the signal
bar icon and network icon with an x.

Reconnect and it should stop showing the signal bar icon, which means you
are connect to the wireless access point.

Once you are connected to you wireless network, right-click on the network
icon again. Select Diagnose and Repair.

If that doesn't work, you may try resetting the wireless access point, the
gateway between the internet and your computer.

    (snip rest of off-the-mark post)

It is clear that the OP's computer is infected. Connectivity issues are
common with infected machines. Messing about with "Diagnose and Repair"
stuff will do nothing. The OP needs to remove the malware from her machine
and then she will be able to connect to the Internet.

I was not sure what was meant by MySpace link kept popping up. I haven't
run into many malware, so my experience with them are limited. I would
think it would want her connected to the internet to keep throwing MySpace
links at her. I don't know.

I just went on the assumption something else went wrong with her connection
and reassure her that she is at least connecting to her wireless access
point (router/gateway) even though she isn't able to access the internet.
