We were talking about reasons not to move to W10 on a radio show this morning. Linux is looking real nice.

If you Google "disable get windows 10 app" you'll see several ways to do this.

    Here are just 2:
Note that disabling telemetry is a must or you'll just get Win10 Upgrade again.

ALSO: Do NOT use Automatic Update. You should check the info for every update to see if it is reinstalling Telemetry, this includes updates to "make updating easier" (a sneaky way to reinstall Telemetry).

There are KB updates responsible for Win10 Upgrade... "To get rid of the icon permanently, uninstall KB3035583 which is responsible for these notifications." But I found that this is not the only KB to cause this, hence my 'also' about checking each update.

I am running Win7 Pro 64bit on my desktop rig, and I am not going to 'upgrade' to Win10 ever (I'm 72 and do not need Win10).
ALL new versions of Windows are full of bugs. IF you are thinking of upgrading, wait at least 2yrs AFTER initial release, you'll get a better upgrade.

Easier to download and run GWX Control Panel:
    http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/
Use it to first remove annoying icon and then to disable Windows 10 Nag folder afterwards
and then the only place you will see it is an occasional popup in Internet Explorer.

Even better is if you didn't load any of the updates to install the Win10 notifications.

True you can find the numbers as there are 3 of them and just make sure they do not get installed.
Look through the list for the KB3035583 and KB2976978 update those are the two major ones.

Yeah it is not true at all, but MS may "make it" true by trying to cripple certain features going forward. I am not liking how MS is treating this whole Windows 10 upgrade path.

Welcome back William and great to see you here again. I have to agree that Microsoft is really traveling along a "dark" path here
and you would think they would have learned something from the "Windows 8 Wars", but apparently they remain just as determined to push over
their plans regardless of how anyone feels.

I agree we can only hope that they change the MO midstream and decide to loosen up a bit. On the positive side Windows 7 will be supported for a long time. On the negative side they are plating rumors that certain hardware features on newer hardware won't work as intended. A scare tactic really. And I don't like it one bit.

Thanks for the welcome back - it's good to be here again.

I could not agree more the "scare tactics" are "below the belt" and that should be obvious.

Well it could happen but it would take the hardware manufacturers in on the game also. Unless MS does something along the lines of blocking new drivers or something with driver signing. But this isn't far from the truth. Think about it for a min. Whenever a new tech is released if it was not available when the OS was made it always works a little weird. Once the OS was built with the tech included it always seems to work better. Is Windows 11 out yet I'm skipping this Win10 crap.

Well if they stick to their words there will be no Windows 11, but rather we begin yearly subscription based Windows.

I love my Windows 7 and MS doesn't scare me. There is a reason why they gave 10 for free and why they continue to push and I hope we find that reason out. Yes welcome back William. Good to see you here again.

Ray, the whole point of Windows 10 is to get enough people on it so that when they offer the next version, we will feel forced to buy their yearly subscription for Windows based on what they call "our needs." If you think about it that is what so many software companies are trying to do now is sell us yearly subscriptions to software rather than sell us the program. Adobe has been doing that successfully as has Intuit for some time now and they all want to get there and having Windows 10 makes it easier to get there.

Thank you Ray for the warm welcome. Basically I think what MS have done is bring the operating system into the same 'rules' of the cell phone where they try to track everything you do. We as techs know that all we want and need is a stable, good working, well organized, intuitive OS to work with, and that will work well with most hardware, just like Windows XP did and then Windows 7. Windows 7 was the best OS they ever released by a long shot in my opinion, though I do use Windows 10 too, but I hate that I have to employ about 5 hacks and then the telemetry stuff just to make it private.

Even when I open up IE on my 7 a get windows 10 thing comes up. Probably cause I removed all the get windows 10 crap and hid the KB update.

That sounds like that is happening. It's defaulting to the beginning stage of the 10 push on your system. I should write a batch file to auto delete the W10 KB's when and if they ever come around again. Essentially a daily KB loop check that could be dropped in the startup folder :dnc: though someone has probably already done it.

They are trying everything to push it. Starting to annoy me, but I use Chrome 95% of the time anyways.

I used to use Chrome but when they went on a crusade against java that finished me off because there are too many sites I live on that
will not run without java. And the very though of using two different browsers for different things to me seems like a time waster.
