Mouse Scrolliing Poor after Sleep

Discussion in 'Windows Vista' started by TheDuck, Jun 19, 2009.

After waking the PC each morning the mouse (MS Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0)
exhibits poor scrolling. A significant amount of wheel rotation will result
in a jerky and slow scroll.
Before sleep it is perfectly smooth.
I have tried disabling the power save option - no improvement.
I am using the latest drivers from MS (6.31.230.0 dated 26/11/2008)
    Vista Business SP2
Seems like a driver issue, but can anybody out there shed more light?
    Thanks

    Hi, Duck.

Have you run Windows Update? Recently?

There was an "Optional" update in May 2009 called "Microsoft - Other
hardware - Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Detection Driver (USB)".

Yep, fully up to date although there is no mention of this patch nor is it
listed in the remaining optional updates. I did find a MS article (Article
ID: 969711) that suggested the problem lay with the USB root hub for the
mouse. Resolution was to add a force hardware reset on resume key to the
registry. In my case, the key was already there but default value 3.
Changing this to the MS recommended 1 seems to have resolved the problem.
    Cheers, D

    Oh well - red herring.
Any idea of the KB number for the update as I can find no reference.

    Yes...and no. :>(

The content of the Details page for the Update in WU is:

    <paste>
Microsoft - Other hardware - Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Detection Driver
    (USB)

    Installation date: ?6/?8/?2009 1:26 PM

    Installation status: Successful

    Update type: Optional

Microsoft Other hardware software update released in May, 2009

    More information:

    Help and Support:

    </paste>

But trying to follow either of those links is quite unproductive. ;>(

The first one says, "Driver Information: Coming Soon", but there has been no
change on that page since I installed the driver - TWICE - on 6/4/09 and
    again on 6/8/09.

My moue is the Laser 6000 v.2.0, so our issues are not identical, though
similar. I don't have the scrolling-in-the-morning problem that you report.
My only remaining complaint with this Wireless Laser 6000 desktop set is
with the keyboard, not the mouse. The keyboard often goes to sleep right in
the middle of my typing - and nothing I've tried wakes it up until its nap
is finished, which takes from one to two minutes.
