On the Acer Drivers and Downloads page enter Notebook, Select Aspire and scroll down
to Model # 5315. A box will appear with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 all checked
off. In the window underneath scroll through the list of drivers until you reach Wireless
LAN - Atheros - Version 7.3.1.73. Click the orange and white down arrow located on the
left. In the file box select save. When finished downloading open .exe and follow the
    prompts.

If you don't have an ethernet cable to plug directly into the notebook to access the internet
you can do one of two things. Download the driver to a flash drive if you have one and install
from flash drive or download to the computer you are currently using and burn the driver to
    a CD.

    Hi Acer,

Without a CD burner or an ethernet cable your only option is to
download it to a flash drive and transfer it that way.
I'm sorry but I cannot offer you help via the pm system. Please
reply with any questions here on the board.

    Thank you, Cindy

Hi Acer and welcome to our Computer Help Forums!

What lousy luck and I do hope you have the flash drive handy that our AllHeart suggested. And please don't feel badly about trying the 'PM' for direct help - I remember ages ago on one computer site where it was encouraged - but here all help asked and given must be right here, within Threads (doing it this way also helps other members may have the same problem in the future, etc). And another nice difference here is our Experts are always happy to help and while doing it, are always patient and understanding while doing it! :)

In addition of our various computer sections, you're most welcome to post in our social area too! And in the interim, please do continue on here so our Cindy can help with a solution - and would you please be kind enough to know when the solution is found, as well.

Again, a happy welcome to you, Acer!

    Mara

    Hi Acer,
In response to your private message.....
The answer is yes, you sure can. A USB Flash Drive is also
known as a thumb drive, pen drive, or a jump drive. :)

I doubt that is exactly what it said. I am confused, so I will try to start over.

    1. If you can find the network adapter in your device manager see if it has any warnings (yellow triangle) next to it.
    2. If you can find it disable the device.
3, Make certain that you have the proper drivers given you by allheart and save it to your flash drive.
    4. Install the drivers from the flashdrive.
    5. Do not try it out just restart the computer and see if that corrects the problem.

Based on the wording that you gave us it may be that your download was incomplete.

Again, please do not ask for help by way of PM. I read every post as does everyone on staff. Allheart55 who has been helping you is one of our Senior Technical Specialists and her knowledge base far exceeds mine.

Honestly Acer this remains confusing. Where are the drivers that you downloaded. You should install them while the device is disabled and then once installed try rebooting without enabling the device. Windows should recognize it.
If your driver is on the flashdrive. Please tell us the file name and the extension (.exe) or whatever shows after the dot.

You can also try installing the drivers using the device manager but you need to know where it is including the drive letter and the file name. You can then use "browse" instead of the CD.
