    What is a good internet browser other than ie that will not slow down or
    freeze, or give me an idea which addons I should install.

    Mozilla Firefox fits two of your three requirements. It won't slow down
    or freeze, but I'm afraid it WILL give you an idea which addons you
    should install. Sorry, keep looking.

    The two major players would be Firefox and Safari.

    Not necessarily - if the OP installed (say) Firefox and didn't GET any
    problems then he will immediately know that the problem is IE....

    Hi Jeremy, must admit that all browsers do the job of browsing quite
    well and are similar when it comes to those factors you just cited.
    Frankly I find its more a matter of personal choice than anyting else.
    I'm IE all the way, Tried Firefox and Google Chrome but eventually
    came back.

    Although most people here will probably suggest Firefox, I use Maxthon
    and greatly prefer it to Firefox.

    But note that Maxthon is not a separate browser; it runs on top of IE,
    with its own user interface.

    Doesn't matter which browser you install, they all slow down or freeze
    if the conditions are right for it. Local issues on the computer aren't
    the only factors involved. Web server bandwidth issues that your choice
    of browser has no impact on also cause slow-downs and freezes. It
    wouldn't surprise me if that was the main cause of most peoples complaints.

    Between Vista and Windows 7 I currently have 5 different browsers
    installed and they all exhibit more or less the same behaviour on the
    same websites. (IE8, Firefox, Maxthon, Opera, Safari) Occasionally
    security settings or interaction with the AV/anti-spyware will affect
    one browser but not another. Other than their various feature sets I
    haven't seen much to choose from, between any of these 5 at least.
