Interactive Logon Failure and Backup

I'm in need of desperate help.

This morning my PC started up fine, then I started getting bombarded
with popups and random messages. Eventually it got so bad I had to
    restart.

Now once it has started up I get a message saying "Interactive Logon
process initialization has failed, please see the log for details",
which just keeps reappearing when I click OK.

I havn't had any joy using the Vista recovery tools or anything, and
need any advice you can offer.

    I haven't backed up for a few months, and I've got my son's 1st
birthday photos on there - I cannot loose them! Does anyone know ways of
backing up data before the pc has booted?

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers

    Bob

  2. If you can not boot the PC you will have to slave the drive to another
computer and then copy over the files you want to save to CD's or DVD's.
Then you can begin to work on the offending computer.

    Saving your files comes first.

Be aware that any computer you slave the drive to must be **FULLY**
protected (antivirus, anti malware etc.). The second computer may become
infected through having your drive connected to it.

What did they say? It's very difficult to be sure without your
answering that question, but my very strong guess is that you are
    infected with malware.

What anti-virus program do you run? What anti-spyware programs do you
run? Are they kept up to date?

You probably don't need me to tell you this, but being delinquent in
doing backups is simply looking for trouble. If you have files that are
important to you, backing them up on a regular basis is extremely
    important.

Since without more information, I can't be sure what you your problem
is, but you need to be aware of the possibility that they *are* lost.

Remove the drive from the computer, install it in another computer,
and try to read and copy your important files there. Whether or not
that works depends on what your malware infection is and what it has
    done to your drive
