Installer Error

I am running Windows *Vista Home Premium x64* on an almost new Dell
Inspiron machine.

When attempting to install or uninstall some new programs (e.g.,
iTunes9, iTunesx64 8.2 ) I get a error message --

_\"The_Windows_Installer_Service_could_not_be_accessed._This_can_occur_...\"_


Is there a fix for this problem? I read an old thread that involved
correcting the registry entry for:

*HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msiserver*

The procedure involved getting the correct entry from another Vista
machine.

Is this still the fix or has Microsoft posted a simpler fix.

If it is could some body please send me this portion of the reg file. I
do not have easy access to another Vista machine.

There's this on registering the installer files:


and then the .reg, you can copy/paste the below into notepad and use
file/"save as" a .reg to create the needed entries:
