Importing Vista DVD Registry

    Hi,

I have this problem that when I log into windows, the computer icon on
the sys tray has that red "X" on it and it says: "connection status:
unknown. The dependency service or group failed to start".

    Well I tried "sfc /scannow", "bootrec /fixboot", "bootrec /fixmbr",
editing Upper/Lowerfilters on registry, setting services's launchtypes
as automatic, "netsh winsock reset"/"netsh int ip reset" and so on and
    so on.

Now I'm beginning to think that I can't fix this without reinstalling
but I'd like to know if there is an option with the Vista DVD to import
the old registry and replace the wrong keys with my current one (of
course I really wouldn't want to replace the whole registry).

The error message is basically telling you that a particular service failed
to start, or more specifically a service upon which another service is
    dependent failed to start.

So checking in Event Viewer for error messages relating to the failed
startup of services might be a good first point of call.
