I have been holding off on installing IE8 and today the Windows Vista SP2
appeared in my Windows Update folder. I hid both files. I am thinking
that I probably need to install IE8 before SP2. Am I correct?

On my x86 and x64 machines, I installed IE8 a few weeks back. I installed
SP2 today. No problems after 8 hours...

I just got a brand new Dell machine running Vista Home Premium 64bit
and the first thing I did was do all the Microsoft updates including
SP2. Everything went well and seems to be working properly except
IE8. It opens up ok but then when you click on links, nothing
happens. Sometimes holding down the control key while clicking helps
or right clicking and opening it in a new tab works. So there are
work arounds for people that know how, unfortunately this is beyond
some people who just want it to work when they click!

I have read about other problems with IE8 & Vista and I hope that
Microsoft is working to solve these problems. Right now the only
solution seems to be to install Firefox.

This machine is running Windows 7 64bit Ultimate RC and it does not
have the problem with IE8. Maybe the solution is for Microsoft to
    turn Windows 7 into Vista SP3? :)

It appears some updates to change some configuration. However, the error
will appear to have IE8 as the culprit, when it mainly stems from WMP.
The error is most notable when attempting to move files in windows
explorer (right click, and windows explorer crashes).

The fix that worked for me was to download shellmenuview here:

Run the program, and if any items are greyed out, select them, right
click, and choose "enable selected." Exit the program, and attempt to
recreate what was causing your error.
