Do you know if you have ever used the second drive? Was it ever listed in my computer when it used to work?

What bothers me is that if it has two hard drives, why does the BIOS see none? I'd think unless both hard drives failed, at least one should show up in the BIOS.

    Try this:

Use the steps below to test the hard drive in a Notebook PC using the HP Hard Drive Self Test.

    - Plug the AC Adapter into the Notebook PC.
    - Press and hold the F10 key while you press the Power button to turn on the PC.
    - Release the F10 key after text is displayed on the screen of the PC.
    - After the BIOS Setup Utility is displayed, use the Right Arrow key to select the Tools menu.
    - Select Hard Drive Self Test.
    - Press the Enter key to start the test.

The Hard Drive Self Test will provide an Estimated test time. A Quick test, a Comprehensive test, and a SMART test will execute when the Enter key is pressed.

If any test fails, then it is highly likely that the drive will need to be replaced.

If all of the tests pass, the hard drive is not damaged.

    NOTE:
Many PC problems are related to soft failures on the hard drive. The comprehensive portion of the HP Hard Drive Self Test will repair soft errors on the hard drive, but it will not report the errors. After the test is complete, be sure to restart the PC to see if test repaired the problem you may be experiencing with your PC.

If all the tests pass, press the Power button to restart the PC. If the Operating System Not Found error still occurs let us know.

I think the problem might be that the two drives were configured as a RAID 0 array (A Subject I'm not to cleaver with) this would mean that the Bios would use the two drives as one, if one of the drives have failed then it would be as if you had one drive that has failed.

other than looking in the Bios to see what the settings are the only other thing I can think of is whether or not the Hard drives showed as one drive in my computer or two separate drives. and hoping one of the other techs that know more on the subject read this and chip in.
