My name is Larry Bates. I have been many things so far... I started as a TV repairman, got my GRS with Ship RADAR endorsement and did that for a couple of years. I joined the Rescue Squad, earned my AAS in Emergency Medical Science and worked as an EMT for 21 years. I became a catalog mailer and a salesman on my off days. When PCs came out, I sold copies of shareware through ads in magazines and manufactured turn-key PC systems. That business was killed by a washed-up actor turned president who put a 100% tariff on RAM chips not soldered to the motherboard. That was a boon to importers like Apple and Radio Shack but killed the domestic manufacturing of computers. Having suffered a cascade failure of the endocrine system, I was unable to work as an EMT but returned to college and earned a BS in Business (Shaw U. 1989) and later an MA in human relations (Liberty U. 2007.) Between those dates, I operated a cutlery store but had to turn it over to my family in 2005, except for my eBay store. My wife, a psychiatric RN, and I wrote a book Guide to Sex for Christian Couples which has been doing quite well as an e-book and will be available as a paperback as soon as I resolve some formatting issues. I am also finishing a fantasy novella and short stories for inclusion in a book. Things are on hold right now: I went to work this year for H&R Block and am trying to finish their 5-year "Fast Track" program in 2 years. This will result in certification as an IRS Enrolled Agent, able to practice in Tax-Court.

:( Actually, I am pretty bummed out by this site. I came here for help with a problem but I am not allowed to post in the Vista Forum and I can not even search for any other postings from people who share my problem. Windows installed SP2 on all three of our machines. Following that I can still burn CDs but not DVDs. Your search will not allow 3 letter words such as SP2 or DVD, even when other text is included. That makes it pretty useless. Other terms frequently needed are RAM, ROM, IPL, HD, GB, Hz, etc...

None of that should be happening, there are no restrictions on you that I can find. Please try clearing your cache. If you can post here you can post anywhere. And there oare no such restrictions on our search.

Sorry if that last post read as if I was doubting what you say. I just cannot account for it. I did check and lower the search requirements. There simply is no reason on the forum settings for you to be able to post in one forum and not another. The only forum that has some restrictions is the malware removal and that still would not stop you from starting a thread there.

:) It does look as if everything is OK now. I did the search but found no results for Vista +SP2 +DVD so it looks as if no one else is having this problem. I have already posted at a couple of other websites with no answer. Hopefully, someone here can tame SP2. I suspect that DVD may be a doomed technology anyway: my new Acer Netbook has no drives at all but relies on SD chips to store and exchange information.
