Getting Jiggy with NORTON

    1. I noticed when I post a little post, it generates a boatload of off-topic
responses, is this Newsgroup in love with me or people here have nothing
    else todo, or unemployed?
Look at my previous Norton post, a few people got into a fight over it.

    2. Anyways here's the message.
You misunderstood my Norton post. I LOVE both Norton (American Co.) +
    PCTools (Irish co.)
Norton AV + PCtools Spyware Doctor are 2 things that have saved my job
TWICE, in one case preventing catastrophic loss due to a Trojan caught thru
    work DSL router.
I've never been infected in my entire life, except several times @work where
I could not control environment consisting of people with low computer
    knowledge.

My Posting wasn't meant to criticize Norton!
I simply stated the fact if you like myself disable AV & Spyware tools,
BEYOND just turning off their real-time protection (how you totally disable
things should be clear to experienced people, and if note - maybe you
shouldn't disable things you dont know about), and then your Network stops,
you bet... it was Norton who thought it's a good idea to shutoff network to
    prevent further downloading/infection/keylogging.
Actually it's a great idea, except it can disturb people who havent beein
"doing" computers fulltime and for many years. It's impossible to guess for
an average person that totally disabling Antivirus can 'remove" your TCP/IP
functionality. In my case it had todo with Symantec Ethernet pre-filter
    (?).

Very strange. I finally managed to disable it, yet maintain Network. My
Cable provider claimed I need to replace a modem, these dopes work/get paid
by TimeWarner, while I am looking for work and know better how to fix
things. I even called TimeWarner again and told them what I think about
    replacing a modem.
They sdhould replace their Techs as I was on IP-based phone while talking to
them, I mentioned this fact but Tech being a dope doesn't take into account
a bad modem would not let me talk on IP-based phone! Hello! And he gets
paid for "solving" my problem, which I solved by myself several hours later.

Norton works if you know how to use. Did you know this? You may not find
some stealthy infections when running it (or PCtools SpywareDoctor) in
normal Windows, shutdown & restart in Safe Mode, and do a totla system scan
w/rootkits, stealth items,, trheatfire, scan Archives, etc. enabled. Make
sure "lower scan priority/reduce CPU load" checkbox is unchecked in
    SpywareDoctor, etc.
There're many settings and one wrong setting will ruin your scan
I am happy with Norton. I just noticed its weird behavior of disrupting
Ethernet w/o warning me, then again you can keep downloading horrible
infections on a 10Mbps Internet connection which might kill your precious
documents in seconds, so Norton shutting it off due to suspicion wasn't a
    bad idea.

It's just too silent, no warning, boom, I got no Internet. Called Cable
company tand of course idiot Technciian suggested )bring your modem for a
replacement". yeah, bring you rbrains for a replacement r get a different
job, pal. I am on IP-based phone with you, so modem works I guess?

I would love to have your knowledge about Norton. I have always shot and
burned anything to do with Norton, but I have realised that I do not
    understand/use it correctly.

I hope you get a job and get stinking rich in the process.
    Cheers

but you said "people with brains use Linux" so you can see why I asked the
    question.

I know Ubuntu is Linux. I guess I have to spell it out for you. I knew I
    would have to do this.

You said people with brains use Linux so I asked why you use Linux because
    you have no brains!

Get it now? If not, let me know and I'll have to get someone to help you
out! Better yet, use some of that $14k a week you claim to get and go back
    to school.

I suggest that you get on a plane to Africa and start investigating the
tribes and find out who uses Ubuntu. Take that retard Alias with you and
    report back in 6 months!

It's not a tribe. Ubuntu is an African word meaning 'Humanity to
others', or 'I am what I am because of who we all are'.

The CEO is Mark Shuttleworth and he heads up the company Canonical that
developed Ubuntu. For more information, see

Ubuntu sounds like an African tribe, by the way.

It is actually a word that describes a concept.

the concept being the love of thy neighbour, and looking after one another
    (very loose translation)
