Get this SP2 off my machine

Discussion in 'Windows Vista' started by keepout@yahoo.com.invalid, Jun 4, 2009.

  1. This is ridiculous. It now takes minutes between key presses to type words. I
went and made coffee while waiting for the machine to type '0109' And it
    eventually typed '00109'.

Everything is now 'not responding'. I have to exit the TV just to regain
    control of the keyboard.

    How do I unload Vista's SP2 ?
It's screwed up what security did exist. Now there's no way to tell if it's a
    virus or Vista causing problems.
    I want it completely gone..
Whatever it did, I can only assume it made everyone decide anything's better
    than Vista's SP2.

SP2 has made the spinning circle of Vista an even more constant companion
for some users than ever before.
Vista is not alone in receiving the blessings of Microsoft's crack
    programmers.
IE8 will not install on a large number of XP machines that have SP3:
    Microsoft ignores this.
Having used both 32 and 64 bit versions of Win7 and seeing the
inconsistencies between the two tells much about quality control at
Microsoft. Did I mention that Vista drivers for many common peripherals do
    not install on Win7.
Microsoft is constantly reinforcing their corporate image in the mold of
1970's vintage General Motors. The mindset has to be that users are forced
to buy Microsoft products regardless of quality.
    Well, the cloud is coming . . . . .

Yeah, I'm seeing windows as more of a panic button than anything else. I'm
betting the apple/mac commercial war [by apple] with the old business guy, and
the young unemployed guy is shortly going to reverse itself or at least like
water, find it's own level, and Apple will soon be a contender making virus
writers flock to damaging Mac's. I seriously considered Mac when my XP machine
died. This may be Windows last nail in it's coffin. I got SP2 removed. I can
only hope it's removal tool, is better than it's install tool. I'm thinking
I'll be reverting back to reinstalling the OS from scratch in another day or
two. It would surprise me if it runs the way it did b4 installing SP2.

    Fingers crossed..

Ah, mystery solved! They need to switch to some drug other than crack.

Which Vista drivers do not install? Ones where the device manufacturer has
again chosen to include an OS identifier in the code? Hardly the fault of
    MS, is it..

Restore from the backup you made before installing it?

Was there a virus on the machine before you installed it? What have
you done since installing it that could have left your machine
    infected?

FWIW: add/remove section remove updates, remove the SP2 update.

It did fix the molasses problem, and now if I can only keep it from triggering
    Onecare's monitors in the future.
The only change I saw with SP2 was it dragged my machine down to nothing and
    annoying.
the UAC made a program I took months [Thumbsplus] trying to configure WITHOUT
the password prompt from the desktop, and quick launch and made me password it
    every launch.
I'd say 'unknown program wants to run' should LEARN after the 1st password
check, instead of repeatedly telling me it's unknown...
Since TP is just one of those programs I use daily, I can only assume it's
affected others that I use rarely.
This could be why it keeps telling me [randomly] I need to launch another adobe
program to keep PDF reader running.

I have 2 gigs ram, I can only imagine if anyone's using the bare minimum 512
meg what they're seeing happen now.

  10. Try to get hold of a disk which has SP2 already included.. I have installed
from such a disk and can report not a single problem.

Obviously, the thousands who installed SP2 did something wrong because their
system, like mine, is working just fine. What do you have to do to screw it
up? I know!!! Just blame Vista.

There were no problems with the install.
It was after it finished when it chose to turn the machine into a doorstop.

Most do, especially if you install using computability mode.
But do remember, Win 7 is a beta release.

Vista is absolutely wonderful after SP2 and I am not in a rush to ditch it

How many free or trial anti virus programs have you tried? How many
are currently running? If you uninstalled any of them, are you sure
they are really gone and not still running in the background?

This is what happened to a friend of mine. He called me when his
machine took more than 25 minutes to just boot up. (This was before
SP2) I uninstalled two that were running and his machine ran much
faster. He still has two others doing things in the background! The
only way to get rid of those is find some sort of removal utility
which I did not bother doing. I offered to install Vista SP2 for him
several days ago and he just tells me his machine is working fine now.

I have installed Vista SP2 on several other machines now and everyone
is happy with it. They all think their system works better and faster
and things they had problems with, are suddenly working. :)
