Firefox _Very_ Slow to Start

Discussion in 'Windows Vista' started by Alan Holbrook, Jun 7, 2009.

  1. I've been using my new Vista box (64-bit Home Premium) for a few months now
and in general I'm OK with it. But something strange has just started to
happen. If I click on my Firefox icon, the browser opens normally. For
any URL I type in, (if the server is available, of course...), Firefox
responds as quickly as the 'net allows. But when I try to start Firefox by
clicking on a link in a different place, like a URL imbedded in an email or
off a widget, there is about a 30 second delay before the browser comes up.

Has anyone else seen this, or have any idea what might be causing it?

    TIA...

Well yes and no, how does it compare if you set IE as default browser.

I just set FF to default and the startup time (Google is the page it
open to just on it's own) is about the same.

IE opens a window at the same speed but takes seconds longer to get the
    Google page.

IE say 7 seconds to get page

FF say 5 seconds to get page

They remain about equal (2 seconds different) from a URL in the sidebar.

If your browser, of whatever ilk, is closed and you click any url link in
another application, then there is bound to be a delay, at least I've always
experienced such in any version of Win.
Generally if the browser is open, the link should be virtually instantaneous

I find that FireFox is slower than I.E. in almost all situations. I still
use it because I think it's safer.

I suspect either a Firefox plugin or something to do with one of those
virus/spyware/firewall programs that check out URLs before displaying
them to you. I would try systematically disabling all that stuff to try
    to narrow the problem down.
