Epson's web site has updated driver(s) for Vista. Look under Drivers and
Support. When you find the right driver, click on it's name and it will
    give instructions for installing it.

    Hi John:

I am contacting you with a request. We have lost / misplaced the set-up
CD that came with the Epson 1660 scanner. Would you be willing to burn
us a copy and send it to us?

    Looking forward to your reply,

    Regards,

    Anton van Walraven

You'll need to check Epson's site for Vista drivers. They originally
claimed they wouldn't support my 1600 Photo Scanner under Vista, but they
did finally release an updated driver and scanner application for it.

The Windows 98 drivers/CD won't do you any good at all under Vista.

I have a 1650 Photo scanner that I finally managed to get working in my
Vista Home Premium. First, I found a Vista compatible driver for the
scanner on the Epson site. Downloaded and installed the driver. No real
joy at what came up--- a very poor unusable imitation of the
scanner----despite the Epson comments not to use the installation disc that
came with the scanner I figured there was nothing to lose. Put in the
original CD and went through the install process and it actually worked.
Later on when trying to put in some of the patches and upgrades it got all
screwed up again. Eventually, I went through many iterations of trying all
kinds of stuff, finally ending up uninstalling and reinstalling. The only
patch that now refuses to work is the one to upgrade the Copy function.
    Good Luck--it wasn't fun

Vista is not the issue, because I made the upgrade of number of
computer in the office to XP. However from the downloaded Twain drivers
from the Epson website, the oldest works, but the functionality in XP of
the scanner user interface, when importing through Photoshop, is not
anywhere it is in Windows 98SE. The Epson 1660 is a combined flatbed and
slide scanner, and under XP it doesn't even give me an option for
slides. The user interface in 98SE included many options for colour
correction, scanner options etc. all absent under XP, as well as Smart
    Panel.
That's why I would like to go back to the original installation CD.

Original OP system was ME. I had all the same (similar) issues in trying to
get the scanner installed with the Vista OS. As I said in the earlier
    post--it wasn't easy. I did a number of installs/uninstalls. Went to
Device Manager, found and deleted the scanner several times. Installed the
Twain Vista Driver and eventually managed to install Smart Panel (Original
CD's) and its upgrade with no problem. As noted, the scanner now works as
it did under ME except for the Copy function upgrade. When I have some time
(and frustration level is low) I'll give it another try--BTW, my scanner
also is a flatbed with slide and negative scan capability. If you are
persistent, one of your tries will work--

Thanks MLD for your encouraging words. I will try again. I have found
some patches on the microsoft site. See if that will work.

    Kind regards,

That driver is for 32-bit only. I am having the same problem as
Snowling. We both have 64-bit Vista. There are 64-bit drivers on
Epson's UK site, but I can't get either of them to work although one did
install without error messages. Any suggestions?

Hi sorry to drag this up again but can anyone help me to get the epson
1660 scanner working with Vista 64bit? I downloaded the drivers that
dwarf suggested on 09-01-2008 but when i tried to run it it said the
version of software installed is incompatable with the update... this is
only the copy factory software and not a driver... I cannot find a 64bit
twain driver Please help thank you

There IS no help. If you can't find drivers, you need to find a new
    scanner.

    It's just that simple.

    In Epson's FAQs they state:

"Q: Does Epson have Microsoft Vista 64-bit drivers available for my scanner?
A: Currently, we do not have Microsoft Vista 64-bit drivers available for
your scanner. However, you may be able to use the VueScan software from
Hamrick; it supports Microsoft Vista 64-bit. Please visit the Hamrick web
site for more information. " Their web site is:
and their supported scanners list shows the
1660. Try the free trial and if it works purchase the program.
