DVD Burning maks system lag BAD

When I burn a data DVD using the right click - sent to d: my system
    laggs really bad.

    My specs are
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (2.6GHz dual core)
    3gb DDR2 ram
    nForce 430 chipset
    geForce 6150SE (256mb dedicated and 1100mb shared)
    DVD multi drive
all drivers are the latest x64 versions
Windows Vista Home Premium x64 SP2 (up to date on all updates)

    I'm using DVD+RW disks....

Is this normal....I mean my entire computer was lagging BAD....and this
is a fresh install of Vista (just switched from x86 to x64 a few days
ago). None of my resources are being hogged up or anything like
that.....page file was at about 1.5gb, 35% memory usage (out of 3gigs),
processor usage was at about 10%....

Why am I lagging so bad when burning a DVD? Any other time, the
computer is extremely fast....but while burning it took almost an entire
    minute to open up firefox

Burning a DVD uses resources and actually...
it's best if you do not multi-task while burning.

Slower burn speeds are good also...you'll burn
    fewer coasters that way.

I understand it uses resources, but I never had this issue burning CDR
    through XPs integrated burning.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that its lags an abnormal amount.
Especially for the hardware that I have installed. This machine should
be able to handle burning a disk without really bogging down like it
    does.

Check in Device Manager that no drive is running in PIO mode.

What software are you using to burn DVDs?

Well....OK...but you are not running XP
anymore and you are not burning a CD.

What would abnormal be? Maybe you
have a software conflict. Sometimes virus
    scanners cause issues.

Try using the following free software to
burn your Data DVD...it may improve the
    issue.

    CDBurnerXP
    http://cdburnerxp.se/

And if you want to burn a Video DVD...try
    DVD Flick...it's also free:

    DVD Flick
    http://www.dvdflick.net/

Be sure to read the Guide:
    http://www.dvdflick.net/guide.php

If you have problems downloading DVD Flick...
    try the following direct link:
    http://voxel.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/dvdflick/dvdflick_setup_1.3.0.6.exe

I looked in device manager and the details for the DVD burner and I
didn't see anything about PIO mode anywhere.

I'm using Windows Explorer to burn the data DVD, I'll give the software
    listed a shot.

    Thanks for the help

  8. One other thing you can check is that your DMA (Direct Memory Access) is
    enabled.

Drive is SATA, no option for DMA under the IDE channels. DMA is enabled
    in the SATA

The setting is on the IDE/ATA controller side.

    I need to amend that:

    Right-click My Computer
    >> Select Manage <<

    High light Device Manager
Expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controller (middle pane)
    Right-click IDE Channel
    Select Properties
    Click Advanced Settings tab

Check Enable DMA box (only shows if there is a device attached to the
    channel)

How much room do you gave on the hard drive?

You might want to run CLEANMGR.EXE, then defrag.

Thanks. My eyes glanced right over that. Mine are listed under "System
    Controllers."

Oh yeah, I forgot not all devices are enumerated/labeled the same. It
depends on the chipset manufacturer and what they decide to call their
    devices in their inf file.
