Desktop icons

Hello,

In XP and earlier, you could select how the titles for your desktop icons
looked. The titles, by this I mean words directly below the icons, all have
shading. This used to be only an option. Now it "seems" to be the only
possible option.

I would really like to change this, I never liked this look.

[Visual Effects] Settings.
I think you are referring to drip shadows.

I believe this would be the "Use drop shadows for icon labels on
desktop" setting in the Visual Effects Options as suggested above.

Please wait for more answers, as I am only providing a partial/hint:

a) Most flexible Theme color-wise is Windows Classic. Not Vista, not XP,
but only if you switch Theme to Classic.
In Vista the way to access it is quire retarded:
Right-click on an empty dekstop-->personalize-->select what aspect of colors
appearance you wish to change. If you click on the first line it says
"change window/color appearance or something to that effect, then select
WindowsClassic, then Advanced & finally you will see the dialog box where
you can chaqnge every bit oif windows colors.

However here's something you better do firt:
Have you tried the following?

Goto COntrolpanel-->System-->AdvancedProperties-->Performance
Tab-->Settings.
Since I changed all colors to my preference (Gothic/Dark) there's a
radiobutton selected which says "Custom in my case.
In your case it might be default or something else.
Regardless, find this checkbox:

"USE DROP SHADOWS FOR ICON LABELS"

If it's not checked, that could be the cause of your problem.
try checking it ON, and see if it helps.

"Use drop shadows for icon labels" is the parameter, it's near the bottom of
the list. Unfortunately it changed my theme from "Windows Classic" to
"Windows Vista", but the shadows stayed away when I switched it back. If
anyone else follows these instructions, your theme will become "Modified
theme", I suggest saving your theme.

Thanks again, I'm not sure why, but the shadows were annoying.

The shadows are annoying to others, I've only seen it once on my computers
in 17 years,
Somehow people enable it by accident, etc..... but one tiem I saw them i was
also annoyed like you
