I've got a strange problem with my desktop icons -- thay don't repsect
IconVerticalSpacing or IconSpacing. Nor do they show any text below the icon
    itself.

I did extensive searching on the web for answers: twidling Auto Arraing,
Align to Grid, Icon Size, Refresh, change Icon size, change Icon text size,
    and change display resolution.

It'd not a driver problem as when I logon as another user, the Icons are OK.

I'm not sure when this happned, but if I recall, I saw an a popup for
Assessibility popup earlier in the day. So I tried flipping Windows
Accessibility on and off including High Contrast options.

Dragging a new icon on to the desktop has the save effect.

    Any thoughts?

You could try resetting things to one of the preset original themes

    Right-click desktop > Personalize > Theme

and then take it from there.to apply your preferred settings.

    Changing themes had no effect.

I found the fix -- delete all entries unter the keys

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags
